Survivor, Ep. 27.14: Finale

I can't believe the Finale is here already! It seems like just yesterday that the season was beginning. Since the show is starting late thanks to live NFL (ugh!), I have a little extra time. So, let's recap where we're at before the final rounds play out:

Still in Play: Tyson, Gervase, Monica, Ciera
On Redemption: Laura M, Tina and Hayden (voted out at the last Tribal Council)

The 3 Redemption Islanders will fight it out, with the winner rejoining the game, making 5 players left in the game. All signs (and I mean ALL signs) point to Laura winning and re-entering the game. The woman is a machine! She has won 5 of the 6 duels she has been faced with (her only loss was to John in her 2nd duel). That is impressive! Of course I want Hayden to pull out a big win here, but let's be realistic. He has not had much luck at any individual immunity challenge. Let's hope that it's something that won't favor the women. But then, when Aras and Vytas were at Redemption, they got lucky with a challenge that was very fair, and they still couldn't beat Tina, so...

Chances are, whoever comes back into the game, it won't really change the outcome of the game. If Tyson makes it to the end (which will be easier because he still has a hidden immunity idol), it doesn't matter who he goes up against...it's his game to lose. He has Gervase and Monica brainwashed to do his bidding and to keep him around. I don't see either of them turning on him and choosing to go to the end with anyone else. So, if any of them win the last immunity, I'm sure he's going with them. If Hayden would somehow get a miracle and make it to the end, he could make it very interesting with his final speech and his answers to the jury's questions. He is an unbelievable talker and is so persuasive, but still likable. If he would get with the right 2 people, he could just win it all. The problem is, unless he wins everything, NO ONE is taking him to the end.

Well, those are the only thoughts I have time for, because the show is starting now! Woohoo! Here we go! (Sorry, this is probably going to be a very long post!)

Kasama Camp
Ciera knows that whoever comes back into the game will be on her side. Tyson thinks his best shot is with Monica and Gervase. He shows them the idol and he offers Monica the chance to keep it because it would just sit in a box until he threw it away. Monica plans to stick with Tyson and Gervase, but she also wants to be with the other side so she has 2 chances of staying.

Redemption Island Duel
Laura vs. Tina vs. Hayden

Hayden likes his chances against the "2 Grandmas". I hope he isn't too cocky, because those 2 Grandmas have been kicking some serious booty.

This is an interesting challenge: a vase sits on the end of a plank. With one foot on the other end of the plank, they have to hold it steady and when their vase tips and breaks, they are out

I am so nervous for Hayden! Balance challenges usually favor females, but this is a lot of balance with the lower body, so this could be a good challenge for him. I literally can't watch my TV screen right now, I'm afraid I will jinx him and he will bobble it.

Everyone is pretty steady. Hayden keeps brushing something out of his eye, and I'm afraid it will mess up his concentration. Laura starts to wobble and she is flailing like crazy and she somehow manages to keep the vase on. Then out of nowhere, Hayden's wobbles and falls after he rubs his eyes again, and he is out. Noooooooo!

Laura begs Tina to let her have it, and Tina says "no way sister!". Laura seems to really be struggling, but Tina seems to have a handle on it, but wait, maybe not! Ooh, I thought that was it, but she stopped it. Laura continues to wobble, and she is out! You've got to be kidding me! I cannot believe that on the very last duel, Laura is taken down! I feel really bad for her. She fought so hard for so long, and then to lose on the last one. What a bummer! I really, really, really, really didn't want Tina to come back.

It's so sad to see Hayden leave and toss his buff in the fire. What a class act...he thanked Jeff on his way out and told everyone that he loved them. So sweet! And then the moment between Laura and Ciera was really emotional and sweet as well.

Tina is in charge of the last immunity clue and she keeps it for herself. I just realized again how dominant the women of this game have been. They DOMINATED the men at Redemption. John is the only one to win a challenge, and both times someone returned, it was a woman.

I just have to wonder how things would have been different if Laura wouldn't have helped Tina with her puzzle. She would have been eliminated, no question, because Vytas was seconds behind her and she had absolutely no clue what she was doing. Things could have ended up very differently if she would have been eliminated instead of him.

Kasama Camp
Tina thinks the women should make an all mom alliance. Tina and Ciera immediately look for the clue, and Tina scurries up the tree. Ciera can't believe that Tina is acting like a 20-year-old. They think it is the right tree, and think that Tyson may have the idol.

Tina starts working on Monica. She says the jury will be ugly because everyone coming through Redemption are all mad at her and are saying that she is not loyal. Monica is shocked, since she has been nothing but loyal to Tyson and Gervase. Ciera doesn't like Tina's approach with Monica because they don't want to scare her off, they want her to work with them. Ciera says that if she would flip, that would be a big move and the jury would look highly on that. She also said they have to play to her ego and she gives her ideas of how she can win by saying that following people has been her strategy. Seeing as how Tyson/Gervase are responsible for all them leaving, if she would help get them out, they might like that.

Immunity Challenge
Holding a rope attached to a moving table, they have to collect 10 blocks (while still holding the rope/table); set them up on a moving table and keep them all standing. Very interesting challenge, and very fair. This is a good one! Jeff's advice "you gotta find that balance between brazen and reckless".

Monica and Tina are up to 4, but Monica drops all 4, and now Tina's all drop! Jeff jokes that she can't even get a foot away from her table. Monica is now up to 5 and so is Ciera. Tyson has 6 and is in the lead. Ciera dumps 6, and Tyson is up to 8. Somewhere, Gervase got up to 7. Tina dumps all of hers again. And it's Tyson with 9 and only 1 left. Monica and Gervase dump them all again! Tyson is moving very slowly and very steady because he has some time. He looks like he's in slow motion! Nice job Tyson! Yes, I did just kind of root for him. I guess I can say that now that Aras, Hayden and Vytas are out of the game, I can root for Tyson to win it all. I think he is the most deserving because he has played a pretty flawless game.

Oh, and even though it was incredibly rude, I kind of love that he asked Jeff if he could kneel like he was being knighted. That Tyson, you just have to laugh.

Kasama Camp
Tyson says he hopes to give Rachel his hidden immunity idol. Tonight is the last night he could use it. Some might say, that he should maybe give the idol to someone (Gervase?). Tyson, Gervase and Monica discuss who to get rid of. Tyson says he's going to let Gervase and Tina decide because it will take the heat off of him, and he doesn't really matter which one goes. Monica thinks it should be Tina because not one person is on the jury because of Tina and that is a really hard thing to beat in the final. She would have the most friends on the jury. Monica also thinks she has been "bullied" by Tina. Ha! Gervase thinks Ciera needs to go because she lies and can't be trusted and has been more of a player. Gervase tries to reason with Monica and try to see why she should be voting out Ciera. Ooh, he's getting pretty heated, but Monica's not getting his side. Gervase has a good point in saying that Tina won't win because she's won before. BUT, have we forgotten about 2-time winner Sandra? They said it couldn't be done and she did it.

Monica, Tina, and Ciera talk and they don't think Tyson will play his idol for either Gervase or Monica. Monica hints that she wants to flip and vote for Gervase, and do the right thing. She is tired of the way they are bullying her and pushing her around. OK, now WHY couldn't she have seen that last week and saved Hayden? Why, why, why? Ciera is hoping that Tina doesn't mess this up by talking too much.

Monica says she's tired of being bullied by everyone so she's going to decide what's best for her. Yeah, she keeps saying that. We'll see.

Tribal Council
I really think Tyson needs to give his idol to his boy Gervase, or he could be in trouble.

Ciera is talking a really good game right now, I think she learned from Hayden. Monica breaks down and says how hard the last 24 hours have been really difficult because everyone has been trying to win her vote. She said a lot of the talk has been about trying to break her down. She continues to hear them talk about how Tyson and Gervase talk about her behind her back. Will she have enough guts to switch her vote? Gervase is looking REALLY nervous after hearing Monica talk. He said his heart just dropped out of his chest after hearing that. Even Tyson looks a little worried, but will he have the guts to do a self-less act and save his Coconut Bandit buddy?

The Vote:
Hold up wait a minute! Tyson gives his idol to his buddy Gervase! Smart move, even if he didn't need it. It will look good with the jury.

Gervase--doesn't count
Gervase--doesn't count
Ciera
Ciera
Ciera

Way to go Monica, sticking with the boys til the end (sarcasm). No big moves for her, she has no shot at winning no matter who she is up against. Ciera played a decent game, but she wasn't going to win either.

We have our final 4--not a single loved one, all former Survivors.

Kasama Camp
Again, Tina was "shocked". She didn't see it coming that Ciera was going to go. Oh dear...get a clue woman!

Monica was "blindsided"...by the fact that Tyson used his idol for Gervase. She didn't think he would have done that if he thought Monica was truly with them. So again, after the votes, she is questioning herself and her alliance. Get a clue woman! She says she is in control of her own destiny. So far, it seems like she is still just going along with her "alliance". I haven't seen her do anything to help herself.

Both Tina and Monica are just ridiculous. I can't believe they are the final 2 women. It actually makes me kind of mad.

Tyson looks so annoyed as Monica and Tina talk about the beautiful sunrise. Ha! His eye roll looked like he was thinking "Really? You're talking about the sunrise? Are you kidding me?'

Immunity Challenge
Race through obstacles to collect puzzle pieces and then slide down a big water slide. After collecting 6 bags, they have to solve the puzzle. Once they have the puzzle, it will give them a combination to raise their flag.

Monica is in the lead followed closely by Gervase. Gervase tries to pass Monica up the stairs, but she blocks him and throws an elbow back at him. That's a football move learned from Brad, no doubt. It's pretty neck-and-neck with the third and fourth bags. Tina starts to slow down, and Monica is still in the lead.

Tyson just took a HUGE leap going down the slide! By the time his butt hit the slide, he was halfway down! That was crazy! Gervase goes down and he is spinning all around! Lots of action going on, so much to watch!

Tyson is first with all his bags and he is opening them; Gervase is very close behind him. Monica is third andTina is in dead last and she is slowing way down. I'm actually surprised that she is as close as she was, there was a lot of running and moving in this challenge.

Monica and Tyson are both getting close. Tyson is first to solve the puzzle, now he has to work on the clues. Tyson thinks he has it, and takes off down the slide. But Jeff said he was checking on something and counting (I'm guessing, he was counting the number of stairs) He tries the combination, and.... he is right! Tyson wins immunity! He needed this win pretty bad, and I think this just seals his fate. He WILL be the winner of Survivor Season 27.

Upon a closer look at the combination blocks, there was a spot for "stairs", "letters" and "blocks". Those were the numbers they needed to figure out.

Kasama Camp
The gang relives the last challenge. Gervase jokingly calls out Monica for blocking him. Later he said that they were on the same team: they were trying to win and keep Tina from winning, not him!

Gervase is talking about his jury speech...he's kind of putting the cart before the horse...he has to get there first. More than likely, Tyson's keeping him, but Monica is the one they need to worry about. Monica talks to Tina and she is very upset with them right now because Tyson didn't tell her about playing the idol. "How dare you", she says. It is "looking" like she wants to vote with Tina. She wants Gervase to earn his spot in the final 3, and that would be a big move for herself in front of the jury. That would make it a tie. At this point, if there is a tie, they would have to make fire. Tina thinks if it's a tie, she easily beats Gervase making fire.

Well, this is the 3rd vote in a row that Monica has been "this close" to flipping and hasn't pulled the trigger. I can't see her doing that now. I don't think she has the guts. If she did, she would have done it before.

Tribal Council
Jeff brings up the confrontation during the challenge and how it really didn't need to be done, but it was Monica's way of getting to Gervase and trying to make a point in the game. Again, I am shocked how much talking everyone is doing at Tribal. Usually everyone tries to keep the talking to a minimum. These people are like an open book. Monica talks about Tina coming to her and saying their only vote is for Gervase and she would be more than comfortable with making fire against him.

The Vote:
Tina
Tina
Gervase
Tina

A tie would have been so much fun to see, but yet again, Monica can't make a move. It's been said by a lot of fellow Survivors on Twitter, that Monica keeps talking about "another" big move...but no one seems to remember what that big move was. I'm right with them, I have no idea what she's talking about. Maybe during her speech we'll find out, and if not, I'm SURE someone from the jury will be asking her about it.

In Tina's goodbye message, she says that if they would have had to build fire, she would have beat Gervase and would have had a good shot at being a 2-time winner. Um...yeah...

Monica and Gervase can be proud that they made it as far as they have. I don't credit it to their gameplay as much as they seem to, though. There's a lot more luck that's gotten them to where they are than they'd like to admit.

Final Tribal Council
Opening Statements:

Gervase: He says he used some old school play along with some new school. He had 13 years off, and he said that anyone with that much time off in any sport, would never make the finals, but he did. He said he was involved in big blindsides, and the biggest one being Aras. He said he played the game the way it should be played.

Monica: She wants to address the elephant in the room, which is that "I know everyone thinks I was a puppy dog on a leash". She said she had 3 chances to flip and didn't because she wanted to sit at the end with Tyson and Gervase because up against them she would have less blood on her hands. Against Hayden, Ciera, Katie or Tina, she was too much like them. She said her strategy gave her best chance to win.

Tyson: He knew he would be a target on day 1. He said he just wanted to have fun and have no regrets. He said his game changed when Rachel left, because she left because of him. He tears up when he talks about Rachel leaving Redemption. He found idols and won challenges when he had to and nothing was done out of malice, only strategy. He said he made it to day 39 because of Rachel's sacrifice.

Jury Questions:

Vytas: Tyson-he used the "get you before you get me" strategy. Vytas said if Tyson voted him out, he wouldn't vote for him in the jury and he's sticking to it-Tyson won't get his vote. Gervase-he said the "old school" strategy doesn't work in Survivor, and that is just an unwillingness to change and adapt. He said his best move was tagging along with new-school guy, Tyson. Monica-he had a friendship with her and she never once came to him and told him about the plan to vote out Aras. He says he doesn't know who he is going to vote for and will decide after hearing what they have to say to the other questions.

Katie: Tyson-he may not have used malice in the game, but he did moments after she was voted out when he made his comment about her chair on jury. He apologized and said that was the one thing he regretted in the game.  He hopes she can look past it; even if it was done to him he doesn't know if he could do the same. So, even though the apology might not have been 100% sincere, he was at least honest with his last statement about not being sure if he would be a big enough person to look past something like that.

Caleb: Gervase-he asked what's his biggest move was, and he said voting out Aras. He wanted Tyson to seem like he was the one making all the moves when really they came from him. Monica-she comes across as a "perfect person" and he wanted her to say something from the heart. She started crying and said that her life has always been about Brad and the NFL, and being mom to her kids. She wants this for herself and she's proud of herself. For once, we might actually be able to believe what she's saying.

Ciera: Tyson-she asks him if he is the hero or villain. He doesn't think he's the villain because all his moves were based on strategy and not dislike of anyone. If you aren't a villain then you must be a hero; Rachel thinks he's a hero. Gervase-would you ever vote out Tyson? He said he was waiting for the right moment, and that might have been at the final 4? When it came down to it, he thought he had better odds staying with Tyson, because he would have been next after him, and would be OK with losing to him. But he thinks he can beat Tyson

Laura: Monica-who are you? She said she felt out of place in the game because people said she was a puppy dog, or that she talked too much or that she talked too much about her kids. Monica says she doesn't know what they want her to say.

Tina: Same question to all 3-one word to best describe the core of who you are. Monica-generous; Gervase-honorable (that's what his name means); Tyson-fun-loving.

Hayden: Tyson-he wants to know if he had the idol when they drew rocks and where was it? Tyson said in the tree..."one step ahead of you again", and Hayden laughs and quotes Kat "touche"! Monica-he says they don't know the real Monica and he said something about Brad, and she says "I made him" (what?!). She doesn't know why she is being ganged up on and says "haven't you met someone nice and generous, and a neat lady?" She says they keep punching her she wants to know what their goal is and what they want her to say. Hayden says he knows she's a great mom, but she's come across as fake and that's why she's getting "beat up".  He said they haven't gotten to know her, so she suggests that after the show, they should have dinner and coffee.

Aras: Gervase-he asks him to prove that he has game awareness and why he should vote for them (Tyson or Monica). He says Tyson, because he had a lot of different elements to his game and he had everyone looking for an idol he had and that was great gameplay. Monica says he should vote "hands down" for Tyson because he made big moves and he won the last 2 immunities. Tyson says Monica! His reason is that when the tribes merged, she kept her distance from them at first and kept people thinking that she was on the bottom, she was able to get a lot of information for them and that was her big move. What?! I don't get that at all. (After reading some tweets from former Survivor Eliza, I see the reason--she said that he did that because he knows he can beat HER, so by throwing some heat her way, he's still going to win.)

Final thoughts: I know that there wasn't a lot to talk about with Monica's game, but I'm not quite sure why so many of them harped on "who she was". What does that have to do with whether or not she gets their vote? I felt kind of bad for her, because I don't know what they were trying to get her to say either. I thought Aras might bring up feeling betrayed by Gervase because of their personal friendship. I loved Hayden's question to Tyson about where the idol was. I think that was just the competitor in him...I bet it was just eating him up inside wondering if he had the idol or if he just couldn't find it.

Final Vote for the Winner
We see Caleb vote for Tyson and Vytas votes for Monica (even though she's annoying).

Monica
Tyson

Tyson

The Winner is TYSON! Congratulations Tyson! Look how emotional he is! Apparently the 3rd time was the charm! It was a well-deserved win. I obviously was rooting for Aras and Hayden, but if neither of them could win, it might as well go to the most deserving player of the season. There aren't too many seasons where you can say from the beginning of the game that if that person makes it to the end, they win the game. And everyone in the game seemed to think the same thing. It was kind of like when Boston Rob secured his core group and got them to follow him blindly--everyone knew if he made it to the end, he would win. Same thing.

Reunion Hi-lights

  • Tyson has pretty hair! So smooth and shiny!
  • Colton clears it up that he did only quit once; last time he played, he was on a tribe of all women, this season, he was on tribe "AARP". Jeff points out that tribe "AARP" kicked his ass :)
  • Kat and Hayden are still together, and she has made "some arrangements of my own to get more on his level", "OK, I'm top-heavy"...oh boy. Hayden looked so embarrassed, and he was trying to get her to shut up. Leave it to Kat to make at least one awkward moment...gotta love her :)
  • Aras and Vytas love each other, but they still fight like brothers.
  • Vytas and Hayden are asked if they would play again. Vytas said he would, he's always been a fan. Hayden's response was "absolutely, you have to". I love hearing that! I would LOVE to watch both of them in a regular season. Looking forward to the next time they play!
  • Tina and Katie seem to be doing well after losing their son/brother in a car accident. Tina pleads to everyone to buckle up and Katie said that people can donate to the Red Cross for the Philippines instead of giving anything to them.

Season 28: Cagayan Teaser
Next season will air in February. The only teaser we are given is a few brief images and the letters "BBB". Unlike last year, we don't have to wait too long to find out what it means. The 3 Bs stand for:  "Brawn" vs. "Brain" vs. "Beauty". These will be the 3 tribes and there will be 9 Survivors on each tribe. This season there will be ALL NEW SURVIVORS. Click here to read more about Season 28.

Season 27 was awesome! I can't wait for Season 28! Thanks for following me this season--watch here for the latest info on Season 28.
