Survivor, Ep. 32.4

Tonight's gonna be a scary one! We've seen and heard about the numerous injuries and evacuations that take place this season. Tonight is the first one. Well, technically not the first one as it turns out. Apparently, the first happened after Liz was voted out. She suffered from a staph infection that later required plastic surgery back in the U.S. In an interview, she said: "A few days after I was voted out, they sent me to the hospital [where] they had all the infected staph tissue cut out of my shoulder, my back, my armpit, my knee. I had these big gaping holes, like four inches down to the muscle.”

It's not fun to see anyone get hurt or have to be removed from the game for any reason, however, I'm really hoping it's not one of my favorites: Caleb or Tai. I've read that this evacuation comes during a challenge, in which possibly up to 3 people have issues related to the heat. Of the 3, one of them needs to be taken out by medevac. In the previews, we see a very emotional Tai and someone getting an IV. Tai's close relationship with Caleb would make sense, but we also know that Tai is a very sensitive individual, so he could be emotional over anyone being removed from the game. Crossing my fingers that Caleb will be OK!

So, with that preface out of the way, let's get to tonight's episode!

Brains Camp

After Tribal, Debbie said it all went as expected and that she was the mastermind. Peter still seemed dumbfounded. Debbie told him that between the 2 she wasn't going to let it be him and that they wanted him there. Peter is dejected but happy he is still there. When it came time to vote, he expected to be the one to go. Now, he says he's going to pick them off one by one.

Reward Challenge
Wow, only 2 minutes into the episode and we're at the challenge already! They are wasting no time clearly because of what happens.

Challenge: obstacles through the sand, and then lots of digging to find bags of balls. Then they roll the balls into targets.
Reward: 1st to finish - Survivor kitchen set of pots, spices, etc.; 2nd to finish - salt and pepper
Sitting Out: Julia and Anna; Neal

Beauty and Brawn out strong. Joe is way behind for Brains.

Cydney is killing it digging and going under the log - man that was fast! The whole tribe pulls Jason from the other side.

Uh oh, Beauty is now in last as they try to pull Nick through.

Scot finds 1 bag, Tai finds 1 bag. Scot finds #2. Brains get 1.

Heat fatigue is starting to set in and everyone is slowing down. Scot looks like he's getting dizzy, Jason, too. It's now 45 minutes in. I feel soooo bad for all of them!

Debbie finds #2 and #3 all of a sudden! They are now rolling their balls and Aubrey gets 1 and then 2. Peter gets another one and another one. Debbie gets #5 and Peter gets the win. Wow...no other tribe even rolling balls yet.

Alecia is just kicking dirt for Brawn. At this point, I don't think their health is worth the reward.

Caleb finds #2 and Nick finds #3 and they're rolling! Caleb is doing well.

Debbie is not looking good. Joe wants to call medical. She doesn't want him to. Finally, he does call Jeff over because he knew she was going downhill fast. Medical comes running in and she admitted that she thought she was overheating and suffering from a heat stroke. They immediately hooked her up to get her vitals and they started pouring water over her. She felt better within minutes and knew she was going to be OK.

Brawn is arguing because Alecia thinks Scot isn't doing anything?! What?! He says he found 2 bags, how many did she find. Finally, Brawn gets the 3rd bag.

Beauty is down to 1 ball and they can't get the last one! Brawn has 3.

Caleb is running so fast, how does he have anything left? Finally, he gets the last ball!!!

And just when you think the challenge is over, they're checking in with Debbie again. She says she's feeling great and still smiling. She thinks she's all cooled down and all better. Medical says her heartrate is still really high. Meanwhile, all around her others are dropping like flies. Cydney doesn't look good. All of sudden Caleb sits down and starts really showing a lot of pain. His face is getting very red, and he lays down and his tribe starts fanning him. They finally call medical over for him. Oh no! At this point, Jeff and medical don't know who to go to next.

Jeff was trying to calm him down and slow his breathing. I hate seeing him in so much pain! They hooked him up to oxygen and he wasn't responding. It doesn't look like he's breathing! Oh no!! Tai sees him and starts crying. Finally Caleb starts to respond a little bit. They get him some saline fluids through his veins to get him rehydrated. They started putting ice all over him.

Jason picked Cydney up and held her as she started to writhe in pain. Cydney is pretty much in the same condition. Jason was so good to her. He was sitting next to her the whole time and held her hand.

At this point, Jeff yells out that everyone on the staff is critical they need people to bring water and start fanning them. A few minutes later, Jeff yells that they're going to need an evacuation.Noooooo!!!!!!

Cydney apparently is good enough to continue, but Caleb is not. Noooo! His whole tribe, especially Tai, is devastated. They are bawling and sobbing. Even though he was still on oxygen and couldn't speak, he made it clear to Jeff that he didn't want to go. Jeff told him that he didn't have a choice, it was medical's decision. This is just the saddest thing ever! He was doing so well, and to have to go out like that is just devastating. I'm so sad for him! I can't believe this had to happen to him. Both Debbie and Cydney were able to continue, but he was just too far gone apparently. Right before the commercial break, a message came up saying that Caleb is 100% recovered and hopes to play again. I sure hope he gets the chance because he deserves it. He was giving more than 100% in that challenge, and it caught up to him. I have to wonder if he would have been going slower and not pushing so hard, if he could have recovered. This was just a reward challenge, not even an immunity challenge. I just don't think he had it in him to not go full-out. I respect the way he played the game and I hope to watch him again. Love you Caleb!!! Read his exit interview here.

Brawn Camp
Alecia's back to being a little brat again. Cydney is still recovering, and she has the nerve to confront Scot. She says that she's not as big as him, so when they're all trying during challenges and he tells her to just go back to cheerleading because that's all she's good at, that that isn't playing as a team. He said when he's playing in an NBA game, he's playing with the best in the world so there's no comparison. She said she was trying her best and never giving up. He said he meant it that she should keep cheerleading because that was helping. He said he could have told her to shut up because that's what he was thinking. Jason chimed in and told her to be a part of the team. Scot said she was lucky she was still there because next Tribal, she's gone. Jason and Cydney don't think she gets it and don't think she will ever get it.

Immunity Challenge
I can't believe they have to do another challenge after all that they've been through!

Challenge: retrive puzzle pieces from the jungle (what?!) and then the water that will make a snake puzzle
Sitting out: Tai and Joe

I think this is a first! They have to run into the jungle where there's some obstacles and they have to find their pieces.

Peter drops a piece in the jungle and has to go back!

Brawn and Beauty head to the ocean, Brains finally starting to catch up.

Jason and Scot are first out of the water with their pieces. Nick passes them up, but it took awhile for Michelle to catch up.

Julia and Anna working on the puzzle for Beauty. Brains are making up a lot of time! They finish the puzzle first! Wow, that was incredible. That was all Peter.

Beauty switches out and Nick comes in. Brawn is really struggling. Come on Beauty! Woohoo!!!! Beauty really needed that win. I think if they would have lost, paired with losing Caleb, would have been devastating. I think it would have sent them in a downward spiral. Now, they can at least be happy that they are all safe, and they have a couple days to mourn the loss of Caleb, and then they can move on and continue to be strong and win challenges for him.

Brawn is going to Tribal, and if it's not Alecia, I'm going to be absolutely sick. There is absolutely 100% NO REASON why she should have lasted 2 Tribal councils. Not one reason. She helps their tribe in no way. Jeff has them stick around and he asks Alecia if she feels picked on. She said she takes the blame for not getting the puzzle. Jeff asked her what she thought the odds of her staying were and Scot holds up a "0". He said if he has any say, she's going home. I would like to think this is true, but his overconfidence could very well send HIM packing tonight if he's not careful. He saw what happened to his girl, Jenny, didn't he? Just keep your mouth shut, and you'll be golden. Jason said, we can vote now if you want. Jeff said, OK, but Alecia has to agree. She said she didn't want to do Tribal now because that would be like giving up. So, she's going to prolong the (hopefully) inevitable. I just know that Jeff is going to ask some really prodding questions at Tribal, I just hope that Jason, Scot, and Cydney do what is best for them, and gets rid of the ONLY person and ONLY thing holding them back, and that's Alecia. Sorry girl, but it's true.

Tribal Council
Oh wow...this episode is nuts! We don't see any pre-tribal camp stuff...no commercial...just right into Tribal Council! Whoa! We don't even get to see what crazy stuff Alecia tried to do to save herself.

Jeff asks Jason if anything has changed since the challenge. Jason, Scot, and Cydney say nothing has changed...except Cydney's response had an upper inflection that kind of showed some uncertainty.

Alecia said that Scot needs to earn her respect. He said she just needs attention, whether it's positive or negative, and he feels sorry for her.

Whoa, another first! Jeff tells Alecia that he thinks she's going to be voted out, he doesn't think they will vote anyone else out, and that he's never seen a Tribal that is this clear cut. He said he's still rooting for her though. She said she feels like she has what it takes to make it to the end. jeff asks if they've missed anything, and that's it. I sure hope it's as obvious as they are making it out to be.

The Votes
For Scot's vote, he held it up and it said "Alec sea yah!" and he said he hopes she watches this back and sees that they were really trying to help her.

Alecia
Scot
Alecia
Alecia

Woohoo! At least something good came out of this sad, and depressing episode. Alecia and Caleb couldn't be more polar opposite. Caleb was likeable, a team player, a provider, an athlete, etc. Alecia was none of those things. I will say that the cards were 100% stacked against her from day 1, though. I still have 0 understanding as to why she was on the Brawn tribe, other than for conflict of personality by casting. None of the traits she possessed fit with the Brawn tribe, and therefore, she didn't mesh with them at all. You could argue it was the "not giving up" thing she tried to stuff down our throats every episode, but her "not giving up" means something completely different to her, I think. She always said she did her best, but did she? Maybe it was her best, but wow, her "best" left a lot to be desired.
