Big Brother, Ep. 17.40: Finale

Tonight we will find out who the winner of Big Brother 17 is. It will be either Vanessa, Steve, or Liz. We have the final 3-part HOH, which will determine who gets to make the decision of who to bring with them to the final 2. Then the jury will get to ask some questions and then they will decide who should win the $500,000.

Of course I wanted Johnny Mac to win, just because he's been the most entertaining player. I'm hoping that he will easily win the Fan Favorite award. So, who should win? Well, Vanessa has played the "best" game - she's won a lot of competitions, and she has manipulated everyone in order for her plans to be carried out...and no one had the guts to stop her! For that, I think she deserves to win. However, her constant whining, crying, and playing the victim made her a rather unlikable player. If the jury respects gameplay, she will win easily. If they are at all bitter for the way they were treated and played, it could very well go to someone else. I actually would kind of like to see Vanessa win just to make Austin mad. Steve has played an OK game. He's won some competitions, but he's also made some really stupid moves and decisions (e.g., the double eviction nomination fiasco, putting up his alliance member Johnny Mac, etc.). I'm not sure what he's done is worthy of the win. As for Liz, she was a part of a really strong alliance, and she won some key competitions. I don't know that she did anything outstanding that is deserving of the win.

Where we stand now, Vanessa and Steve have promised each other to choose the other to go to the finals over Liz. Secretly, neither of them plan to honor this Day 2 alliance, and both in fact, plan to take Liz to the final 2, because she will be easier to beat.

HOH Comp: Part 1

They are hanging and swinging into a wall, and being dipped and sprayed with powder.

Steve is the first to fall - his thighs just couldn't hang on.

Vanessa works on Liz. She thinks she has at least another hour in her. She tells Liz she is in a lot of pain, but she is NOT letting go, ever. She tells Liz she has a better shot than her in the next round. Liz begs her to promise that she is taking her to final 2. Vanessa promises, and Liz falls. Yet again, Vanessa brain washes a twin, and gets someone to do the unthinkable. Seriously? This is just incredible.

HOH Comp: Part 2 - Liz vs. Steve
Challenge: Crossword puzzle on the wall - they will climb the wall with the letters and hang them.

Steve feels like this is his competition and Liz will be scared.

He is moving pretty quickly. He gets stuck with no H, and realizes it was in his bag the whole time. The last clue was tough, but he sifted through his remaining letters to unscramble it.

Good luck with this Liz...

Liz was stumped temporarily with the clue "OTEV dairy product". Her first guesses were "yeast" and "pizza". She ended up doing better than I thought she would. I just wonder how much we didn't see of her being confused.

Steve - 28:27
Liz - 31:11

Steve wins and will face-off with Vanessa.

BB Jury Discussion w/ Will Kirby
Love seeing Will! BB2 legend! People either love him or hate him...I think I'm one of the minority that loves him.

Austin said if Vanessa was the last jury member, he would cut off his ponytail beard right there. Too bad, it's Johnny Mac :(

It's clear that Austin is still way bitter about his blindside. He said she could have at least let him put shoes on!

Will asks who was there because of Vanessa...they all raise their hands. They all agree that she wins a lot of competitions. Meg said she hasn't fooled them, they all saw what she was doing. Becky didn't like that she would swear on everything and she wants to see someone win that she feels good about.

Shelli said that Steve would intentionally throw competitions when it would get a lot of blood on his hands. When he needed to save himself, he would go for it. John called him a rat! He said he didn't like his gameplay at all! Julia said he was cowardly and did not own up to his decisions.

Jackie respected the tough position that Liz had to fight from, being a twin. She lasted a very long time. John doesn't think she should win because "she rode someone to the end"...I think pun was intended there! Haha! Becky thinks Austin was the better gameplayer between him and Liz.

If Steve wins HOH and cuts Vanessa, that would change some people's minds about Steve winning. Even Austin gave it a thought to maybe give Steve his vote over Liz. Yeah, I don't see that happening.

HOH Comp: Part 3 - Steve vs. Vanessa
It's the classic lifesize scale. They choose the correct ending to a jury member quote. This is always so tough...there's a lot of luck involved.

Q1: Steve right, Vanessa wrong
Q2: both wrong
Q3: both right
Q4: both right
Q5: both wrong
Q6: both right
Q7: Vanessa right, Steve wrong
Q8: Steve right, Vanessa wrong

Oh my goodness! Steve wins!!! Wow! I really thought he would choke on this. Vanessa can read people, so I can't believe she lost this! She looks absolutely devastated...and rightly so!

So....who is Steve going to pick? He would be absolutely stupid to take Vanessa. Can she work some voodoo on him and pull off another miracle? I wouldn't put it past her.

Steve's Decision
The feeds have said that Steve has been practicing his speech for days. Judging how nervous he is...will he even remember what he wanted to say?

He addresses Vanessa and says that he has watched the show from the beginning and he is convinced that she is the strongest female the game has ever seen. He is so panicky right now! He said he knows that she can talk to the jury and she has always told him to make the move that he can justify to himself and to superfans watching. He said he can't justify taking the stronger player to the final and he has to evict her. He said he was so sorry. She seemed OK with his decision. Liz said she was so thankful and that she could use the money so badly. She had no idea he was going to do that and she had no words.

Vanessa said she kind of saw this coming and she said she never fully trusted Steve and he had betrayed her several times in the game. She said she did not intend to take him to the final 2 with her, so she can't be mad.

On one hand, it's a shame that everything she did in the game, and she walks away with nothing. Of the 3, she was probably the most deserving. On the other hand, it makes for a very interesting finale and the winner is now not quite as clear cut. However, it would be very unlikely for Liz to pull out a win, unless people really think Steve is there by dumb luck...because he didn't always make the smartest moves.

BB alumni on Twitter have been predicting a Steve win, even before finding out whether he would be in the final 2 or not.

Jury Questions
John: Steve, you relied on James and Vanessa. He said it was his moves and his friendships that got him into Scamper Squad. He said it was his decision to split up the Austwins. That's all I got because he was talking so fast!

Becky: Liz - the jury thinks Austin was the main strategizer. She said she came in with a big target on her back. She said she held her own and did her own campaigning.

James: Steve - you floated through half the game, next to someone who played from day 1. He said that wasn't true. He pointed out his layers of protection and building the bridges that he would need for the 2nd half of the game.

Julia: Liz - other than winning comps, what was your biggest game move. She said aligning with strong competitors who got her far in the game. People were scared to breach her 3-person alliance.

Jackie: Steve - people feel like he didn't talk strategy with everyone in his alliance thought his only function was a vote in their group . He said he had a fake tiff with Austin all season and no one suspected they were working together.

Austin: Liz - why do you deserve to win the money over "the boy". She said she deserves it because she came with a huge disadvantage. She said she had to make herself seem like less of a threat.

Summary: Steve had a plan and had a good, well thought out answer to every question. Liz repeated the same exact thing over and over. She had nothing.

Final Statements
Liz - She was not a huge superfan or a gamer, but she has grown a love for the game. She came in with a twin and it was a miracle to survive as long as they did. She fought and won HOHs and Vetos.

Steve - He had 4 full HOH wins and he was making moves that weren't following what anyone else wanted. He also took out the strongest player, Vanessa. He said a lot more, but he talks so fast!

The Votes
So, Austin voted as Judas and quoted Selena Gomez..."the heart wants what it wants". LOL!

Vanessa - Liz (really Vanessa?)
Johnny Mac - Steve
Austin - Liz
Julia - Liz
James - Steve
Meg - Steve
Becky - Steve
Jackie - Steve
Shelli - Steve

Oh dear...I think he's going to have a panic attack! Have the ambulance on call, because I thinkhe might pass out! He was shaking so badly!

He might not have played the best game, but you have to be happy for him, as such a super fan whose lifelong dream was to be on the show, to come away with the win. Good for him.

America's Favorite Player
Johnny Mac, James, Jason in the running as the top 3. The winner of $25,000 is....James?!

WHAT?????? How in the world did Johnny Mac not win that?! I thought he was a shoo-in. So much love for him everywhere. So, apparently no one else voted as often for him as I did. I thought I could at least have one happy ending tonight. I liked James too, but man, I reallly, really wanted Johnny Mac to win. My mom is going to be VERY upset....she couldn't stand James.

Well...until next summer!
