Survivor, Ep. 28.1

Season 28 is here! The theme of this season is: Brawn vs. Brains vs. Beauty. If you missed by preview article and cast bios, you can read it here.

The "Brawn" tribe is named Aparri, and their tribe color is orange.
The "Brains" tribe is named Luzon, and their tribe color is green.
The "Beauty" tribe is named Solana, and their tribe color is purple.

The tribes come in for the first time and see each other. Probst asks a few of them to decide what group they are grouped as. Then, without talking to each other before they got there, they had to pick a leader.

Sarah is picked for Aparri (The Brawn)
David is picked for Luzon (The Brains)
LJ is picked for Solana (The Beauty)

The leaders then have to decide who on their tribe is the weakest, and who the tribe could do without. Each person picked their "weakest" for very different reasons.

Sarah, for Brawn picks Trish
David, for Brains picks Garrett
LJ, for Beauty picks Morgan

The weakest people are separated, and they are going to be sent to their camp ahead of the others, via helicopter. Once there, they will make an important decision for their tribe. They have the choice of getting an extra bag of rice for the tribe, or taking a clue to the hidden immunity idol. The rest of the tribes get maps and they have to make their way there on their own.

Brains - Luzon
Garrett chooses to look for the idol. He makes quick work to get started looking, and after digging in the water, he found the idol! He was ready to make David pay for thinking he was the weakest.

Spencer didn't agree with David's choice to immediately ostracize Garrett, who would clearly be an asset to the tribe.

J'Tia took control of telling everyone how to build the shelter, right down to the number of poles and how long they should be and how high they should go. Bossy, bossy, bossy! And of course she didn't lift a finger to help. That really rubbed Kass and David the wrong way. J'Tia swore that the bamboo would hold all their weight because it was all about the structure. One person sat on it, and it crumbled to pieces. Whoops!

Brawn - Aparri
Trish (aka "this season's Sherri") chooses to help the tribe. She told the group that she chose the extra bag of rice over a clue to the idol. She wanted to make sure that they didn't see her as the weakest.

Cliff's tribe didn't really recognize him, with the exception of Woo, who was a big fan.

Tony lied to the tribe and said he was a contractor. Sarah asked him if he was a cop, and he lied! She said he totally looked like a cop, and she was pretty sure he was lying about being a cop. She said she didn't trust him, and he needed to go.

Beauty - Solana
Morgan chooses to look for the idol. Morgan, too, started looking right away for the idol. Unfortunately, the rest of the tribe makes it to camp before she could find it. She decides to lie about her decision. She said her decision was to choose between supplies and comfort, and she chose the bag of rice and building materials that were already there. Good thinking! They totally bought it. LJ was already thinking that she had an idol.

The guys pretty quickly made fire by themselves, without flint! So much for being just "pretty" people. They seem to know what they're doing.

Immunity Challenge

Reward is a fire-making kit for the 1st tribe, and the 2nd tribe gets flint.

It's a multi-stage challenge: roll a cart to get to keys to unlock a chest. The chests get put onto the cart as they move through the obstacles to the next key and chest. Once all of the chests are collected, they dismantle the cart and put it piece by piece through a wall along with the chests. Then take the puzzle pieces inside to complete a large, round 3D puzzle.

Brawn tribe was in the lead, while the Brains were struggling to figure out how to get the pieces through the wall. They pushed their chests through and they broke on the ground, spilling out all their pieces. They fell so far behind. Probst let them hear it. "One of the worst performances out of the gate in the history of Survivor". He said they might not even get a chance to finish.

And it's Beauty for the win! LJ seems to be very good at the puzzles. Brawn finished just seconds behind. The Brains weren't even a third of the way done with their puzzle.

Before Tribal - Brains
Things are not looking good for J'Tia. However, David really wants to get rid of Garrett. That would be absolutely stupid because they need strength. Pretty much everyone else agrees it should be J'Tia because she doesn't do anything around camp, she's bossy and just dead weight. Kass tells her right to her face that she's leaning towards voting her way. She told her it was time for her to scramble. She was hurt by what Kass said, and she said that she thought that she was being motivating. Yeah, not so much.

Garrett went to J'Tia and Tasha, and said they should go after David because he's the biggest threat. He thinks he's a schemer. As Garrett talks to Spencer, Spencer asks if he's heard anything about an idol. He thinks David might have found it because he keeps going off on his own. Garrett's worried about voting for David now because he doesn't think he has the votes.

Tribal Council
First thing, a spider was crawling on Garrett and freaked him out! Ha! That's a first!

The talk centered around J'Tia, and she came right out and said it should be David instead. It's funny that they talked about her lack of shelter-building strategy (because the shelter failed), because the "shelter" of the Tribal Council area was very lacking. As it started to rain, Probst was soaking wet, as well as the members of the tribe. I've never seen a tribe get wet during their Tribal.

Part 2...

Brains - Luzon
Garrett is starting to put to many irons in the fire. He's with Spencer for sure. He's said he's with J'Tia and Tasha, but he's also made a 3-pact with Spencer and Kass. Kass realizes that she's a swing vote, and doesn't really completely trust Garrett.

Brawn - Aparri
"Cliff has Woo"...Woo is Cliff's wingman. He and his wingman took a dump in the water when they flipped their canoe. That was pretty funny!

Everyone talks about how well-liked Cliff is. He's bordering on having the entire tribe eating out of his hands. If he plays it right, he will go extremely far with that. However, if he's too well-liked, he could be the first to go.

Trish starts rubbing Lindsey the wrong way. Lindsey does a hilarious impression of Trish and how she talks. I'm with Lindsey...Trish's voice is really annoying! Her voice is so deep, and that Boston accent...ugh!

Tony builds a "spyshack". He pretends he's building a shelter, but it's a barrier to allow him to listen to what everyone is saying. His main targets: Cliff and Woo.

Beauty - Solana
Brice is hilarious! He said all of Jefra's crayons in her box are not bright...haha!

Brice is the wingman on his tribe. He wants to help Jeremiah (aka "this season's JT") get close to Jefra (aka "this season's Whitney") and Morgan. He formed an alliance with Jeremiah and the girls, saying the country folk gotta stick together.

Immunity Challenge
Reward: fishing kit for the 1st tribe, and 2nd tribe gets lures, weights and fishing line
Teams have to swim to a cage in the water. They have to climb up and over the cage, and get inside to get out the fish traps from inside the cage that are under water. Then, they bring the weighted fish traps to the beach.

Cliff sits out for Brawn and Brice sits out for Beauty

Brains are quickly behind again, because J'Tia is a horrible swimmer. They do make up some time and are actually in this competition, and actually get them all back to the beach first! Brawn is struggling, and Beauty is falling further and further behind.

When Brawn gets back to the puzzle, their platform was covered in blood. Sarah cut her finger and Tony had a huge chunk taken out of his foot.

Brains had a lead, and J'Tia couldn't do the puzzle, Sarah for Brawn pulled ahead and won!

LJ pulls ahead of J'Tia...boy she is really screwing her tribe. J'Tia really started panicking. LJ had 5 pieces to J'Tia's 2. And it's Beauty for the win! LJ was killing it with that puzzle again. He is really good, and he's totally the reason they came back and were able to win. Brains will go to Tribal again! That was all J'Tia's fault.

Before Tribal
At the Brawn camp, Tony assumes there will be a clue hidden in their fishing kit. He was right. He pulled the clue out, and he knew right where to look for the idol. Sure enough, he was right. The 2nd idol has been found. I think it's safe to say that without the clues, these idols hidden under water would have been impossible to find.

At the Brains camp, Garrett thinks J'Tia is the best option to send home because of how horrible she was. As a group, they openly discussed who they thought should go. Kass, Spencer and Garrett all said J'Tia should go. Garrett openly said he didn't think they should have any side conversations about it. That really irked Tasha because she said she wanted to make alliances and play the game. She said they aren't playing strategically if they are all going to listen to Garrett and do what he wants by "not" playing the game.

Spencer called Garrett a grade A moron for his open forum. He said they should have just told J'Tia what she wanted to hear, but now they have to babysit the girls to make sure they go home. Tasha scrambles and goes to Kass to try to make an all girls alliance. Garrett steps in along with Spencer saying that he thought the 4 of them need to stay together.

Oh no she didn't! While the 4 of them were off together, J'Tia went crazy and dumped their rice into the fire! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!! It's Brandon all over again! She actually had a fighting chance...until she did that.

Tribal Council
Garrett really blew it by saying that he, Kass and Spencer had an alliance. He said "alliance" and corrected himself by saying "tribe". He claimed to not be masterminding anything, but the more he talked, the more he dug himself into a hole. J'Tia was going home, but Garrett just grabbed a shovel and is digging his own hole. If he's not careful, he's going to be leaving with that idol in his pocket as a souvenir.

NOOOOOOO! Holy crap! I can't believe they actually did it. Poor Spencer. I really like this kid, but now he could be in trouble. Because let's face it...this tribe is in trouble. They just got rid of 2 strong guys, and only have 1 guy left. Yikes! Probst put it perfectly: "This is the oddest tribe I've ever seen."

Whoa, and in Garrett's goodbye video, he said he left the idol at camp and didn't even bring it with him...that's how sure he was that he wasn't going home! Definitely not a smart move for someone who was on the Brains tribe. He was so confident in himself that he brought NOTHING with him to Tribal, no idol and none of his stuff!
