The Bachelorette, Ep. 9.8

Hometown Dates Week

Zak - Dallas, TX
The date starts out with Zak telling the most bizarre dream ever. What was the point of that? From the weird dream, we go to a weird ride in a snow cone truck. He drives them to an elementary school where they pass out snow cones. Oh dear, then Zak disappears, and he comes back as a giant penguin. I think this could go down as one of the most pointless, most bizarre choices for a hometown date.

Time to meet the fam. The welcome was...let's just say, loud. They all screamed and came running at her to give her a hug. He said the last girl he took home was a little overwhelmed, and I can see why. They seem really nice, though. They were all shocked to find out that he took off his shirt right out of the limo.

Zak's mom was real subtle by having roses on the table. She thought that Des could just give him a rose now, and the show could be over. Oh, if it were only that simple. According to Zak and his mom, he's got this in the bag...they are a perfect match.

Next, Zak pulls out the guitar and he and his sister and brother sing a song that he wrote for her. Wow, that is one talented, good looking family. One question: is his brother available?

At the end of the night, Zak pulls a ring out of his pocket that he's had since Atlantic City. And then he tells her that he loves her.

Drew - Scottsdale, AZ
"Time to throw Des in the deep end and see if she can swim with this family." Oh boy...

Before they go to his Mom's house, to meet up with 11 members of his family, they are going to pick up his sister Melissa. This is the sister who is mentally handicapped. He is so great with her. I can't imagine how hard it would be to have a family member like that, let alone a sibling.

Des made a big impression on Drew's parents, and they absolutely adored her. His dad told him to go for it with her and he would gladly throw a party for him. He told Drew to bring her back and make her a part of their family. Des felt the same, she said she wanted to join their family right away and didn't want to leave.

At the end of the date, Drew finally told Des that he loves her.

Chris - McMinnville, OR
They start out the day by playing some baseball. These two poet lovebirds, come up with some nice cheesy lines on their date. Things like "you're a catch", and "Chris is stealing my heart."

Instead of poetry, Des drew some pictures of their time together. Chris thinks this is special because it's something only the 2 of them have. Sorry, Chris, hate to tell you, but...on Zak's last date, he presented Des with drawings representing their time together. So, she wasn't too original. And for all we know, she could have just used Zak's drawings and said they were of him (all except the one coming out of the limo when he bent down to tie his shoe, of course).

Finally, it's time to meet the fam, and there's a ton of them to meet. They sit down to dinner, and his dad gives one of the weirdest, most confusing toasts ever. Not too long into dinner, Chris and Des talk about their dates, and she talks about how she tweaked her back. Well, what do you know...Chris's dad is a chiropractor, and his office is right downstairs. He wastes no time in taking her down there to align her back. He's rubbing and popping her all over. Like she said, "not weird at all". Yeah.

Later Chris goes down to talk to his dad, and his dad proceeds to give him a nose adjustment, that looked totally gross and weird. He stuck this thing up his nose and told him to blow. Yuck! I can't see how that would do anything.

Out of all the parents we've met so far, Chris's mom gives Des and Chris the hardest time. But overall, she did really like Des, and she gave her blessing.

Chris is sure that Des isn't sharing the type of feelings that they have, with anyone else. Really, Chris? Have you never watched this show before? It's clear that he has, because his mom said that Chris told her before he left for the show that he hoped it was Des who was the Bachelorette.

Brooks - Salt Lake City, UT
Again, it looks like Brooks took absolutely no time to make himself look presentable. His hair is a mess, he needs to shave, and his clothes are just weird as normal.

Des says she loves Brooks and has wanted to meet his family since after their first dates. Brooks says he's not sure what his feelings are for Des. She presents him with a list of her favorite moments with Brooks. I just had to laugh that one of her favorite moments was his broken finger. She said that he was in so much pain but was so adorable, and said "that was a good moment". So why exactly is him breaking his finger a good moment? I don't think he would think so.

They go canoeing. He partially tips their canoe getting her wet....nice.

Family time, and it's another huge family. So big, they all are wearing name tags. Can we say "nerds"! Very easy to see why he is the way he is. Brooks had so many questions for his family, almost more than they had for him. It was really sweet to see Brooks with his mom. He really values what she has to say.

I don't normally catch the tweets on the screen during the show because I'm busy typing. However, I just now caught one that said that they hope that Brooks makes it to Des's hometown because her brother will have Brooks in the fetal position within the first 5 minutes of dinner. Ha! That's a good one, and probably true!

Brooks is the only guy to not tell Des that he loves her.

Surprise Visit
It's the demon brother himself, Nate. The guy who attacked Sean for absolutely no reason, and pretty much ruined her chances with Sean.

Nate asks her what she thinks of the final 4, and she lists all the qualities she likes about all of them. She says she thinks he would like all of them. He says he would like to meet them, because it would be fun. But, she said she wasn't sure how he would be with them.

Oh man...another good tweet on screen: "I'd like to meet Des's brother, and give him a high five...in the face...with a chair." Ha! Sounds about right. I don't know what it is about the guy. He seems to have Des's best interests at heart, but he is just kind of snotty the way he talks to her. Part of me thinks that he is just putting on a show for the cameras. This time especially, because he kind of has a reputation to live up to after what happened with Sean. It would just seem weird if he was all sweet now.

Talk with Chris
Did Des just say that she is hopeful for a proposal with Brooks? Wow! Never before has a Bachelor or Bachelorette so clearly stated the final pick. She keeps talking about how she's in love with him and now she's hoping for a proposal from HIM. She could at least keep us guessing. I'm also surprised that they are airing her comments. They base the whole show on keeping you guessing as to who goes and who stays each week, but they are pretty much just giving away the ending.

Rose Ceremony

Receive Roses: Brooks, Chris, Drew

Going Home: Zak

I find it interesting that they aired the hometown dates in the same order that she handed out the roses, and SPOILER ALERT the same order that she picks the guys in the end.

Poor Zak, didn't see it coming. Des gave back the ring, and he ended up throwing it out the window of the limo.
