The Bachelorette, Ep. 9.2

One-on-One Date: Brooks
Brooks scores the first one-on-one date. I didn't have the best first impression of Brooks, but he seems to be pretty genuine.

They go to a bridal store and she jokes with him that he needs to try on a dress. He looked less than thrilled, but he was game for it. Luckily, she was only joking. They had fun trying on dresses (only her) and lots of different colored suits (him). At the end, he carried her out of the store in a wedding dress, and then they went to look at wedding cakes. Is it just me, or do we see the lead take someone to some sort of clothing store every single season? Not all that original, if you ask me.

Next, they go on a winding drive up into the hills, and she surprises him by taking him to see the Hollywood sign. Copycats! Not original at all...Ali and Frank went there a couple seasons ago. They shared quite a bit as they sat on the sign (the 2nd L, to be exact). He was sweet and gave her his jacket. Finally, he ended up with the first kiss from Des. I'd say this date is going quite well.

The evening portion of their date is also a repeat: a dinner on a bridge, with a chandelier hanging over top. This is a copy of Kalon and Lindzi's date on Bachelor Pad. (Are they really out of ideas, so they have to recycle everything they've already done?)

Things get emotional when they talk about their families. This is the first date and they are already getting into some deep topics. Brooks is going to have a huge lead on all the other guys. He obviously gets a rose. And, the date isn't over yet...they get a private concert by Andy Grammer (one of their better musical choices...as this is another thing that happens every season).

Group Date: Dan, Juan Pablo, Zack K, Will, Brian, Drew, James, Mikey, Zak W, Nick, Michael, Brandon, Ben and Kasey

Chris lets us know as the group date card arrives, that he is there to spend time with Desiree, and he has yet to get a date. Whoa, dude! There has been 1, count them 1, date card so far and it was a one-on-one. There are 17 other guys besides you, who also haven't gotten a date yet, so you are hardly in the minority here. Chill out!

For the group date, they are all going to be in a rap video with Soulja Boy, called "All The Right Reasons". Some of the guys try to show off with some rhymes, and it was just sad. James really choked on his attempt.

Soulja Boy breaks them into groups, and they start to learn some choreography. Then they start rehearsing their lines, and they start to sound familiar. "Guard and protect your heart..." that was a big clue. All of the rhymes have to do with making fun of former bachelors. Kalon, Wes, Jason Mesnick, etc., aka all the guys who were not there for the right reasons, or did some crazy/stupid things. This is going to be good!

Ben is up first, and he is Wes with his guitar. He actually did a pretty good job. James was Justin, the wrestler. He was not so great. Brandon, unfortunately had to go pantsless. He was really struggling with his lines. The guys started booing him. I'm not exactly sure who he was supposed to be.

After the rap video, they get some time to have one-on-ones. Zak W. took her aside first. He presents her with a gift: an antique journal that's never been written in. It had a note from a father to his daughter in the back (that's a little weird). She was blown away by the gesture. He completely changed her mind about him (which was that he was the shirtless guy).

Ben interrupts Mikey, and all the guys are saying that he is not there for the right reasons. Him being the first guy to get a first impression rose, he was an obvious target, and they are going after him pretty hard. Brandon catches Ben and Des kissing. Things just got real people.

Mikey decides to confront Ben, because a lot of them are getting the same kind of feelings about him. Ben swooping in on his time with Des really rubbed him the wrong way. I think Mikey handled the situation very well and was very polite and sincere. Nice talk, boys.

Brandon thinks about it for awhile, and eventually decides to swoop in for some time alone. He shared with her about his dad leaving him and his mom when he was 5. His mom was a drug addict and they moved every 2 years. He had to help raise his younger siblings. That had to be hard. After their talk, he reveals that he has fallen "in like" with her.

And the date rose goes to: Ben! Shocker! I really thought it might be Brandon. That is not going to help Ben's case against these guys who are out to get him.

One-on-One Date: Bryden

This means that Chris, Brad and Robert do not have dates this week.

She picks Bryden up and they go on a road trip.  The drive north up the California coast. After stopping for some snacks, they head to the beach and they attempt (poorly) to fly a kite. They visit an orange orchard. Finally, they end up at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, where they are going to have dinner.

Bryden tells Des about a terrible accident he was in when he was driving a large truck and trailer. Why he thought this was a good time to talk about how bad the accident was and that he almost died, is beyond me. I guess I get it, because he said it made him realize you need to take advantage of every day you have, etc. But still...maybe wait til after you're done eating.

He received a rose. And what date wouldn't be complete without a dip in the hot tub. She has to tell him to kiss her...that was kind of weird.

Cocktail Party

Michael talks to Des about his Type 1 Diabetes. He is interrupted by...guess who...Ben! Apparently, he has not ever watched the show before, because that is like Rule #1: If you have a rose, step aside, and definitely do NOT steal the girl away from a guy who doesn't have a rose. Mikey couldn't believe he did that after the little talk they had. This time Mikey wasn't so nice when Ben re-entered the room.

Michael pulls Ben aside to again call him out on his ridiculous behavior. Ben tries to shrug it off like he thought she was alone when he went in. The guys weren't buying it.

Brian comes in and literally sweeps Des off her feet. They talk about past relationships and he says that his last relationship ended a couple months ago. He also talks about how his parents are still together and that his family has a lot of morals and values. (Hint to next week's episode: this relationship may or may not be as over as he is saying it is.)

Rose Ceremony

Receive Roses: James, Kasey, Dan, Juan Pablo, Brian, Chris, Brian, Zak W., Drew, Mikey, Zack K., Michael, Brandon along with Brooks, Ben and Bryden who received roses on their dates

Eliminated: Robert, Will and Nick

Final Note: If you're wondering why Robert might have been eliminated, my go-to source for spoilers and behind-the-scenes info, Reality Steve, said that Robert hooked up with one of Des's roommates. She remembered him...he apparently didn't remember her.
Update: Des just confirmed this on Twitter:

Sorry ladies! Robert aka Liam Hemsworth's brother dated my friend before so couldn't keep him around.
