The Bachelorette, Ep. 9.4

The Boys are off to Atlantic City
Whoever said "Des is gonna be there" should be sent home right now. Wow.

One-on-One Date: Brad
I cannot figure out who he reminds me of. It's been bugging me for weeks, and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe after his date it will come to me.

They spend some time walking around and riding rides. They go to get some salt water taffy. But Des smells chocolate, so they go on the hunt for where the smell is coming from. This included going where it doesn't look like normal people are supposed to go. They walk right into the production line and pick some of the chocolate right off the assembly line. Yeah...that's not planned at at all.

Time for dinner and it couldn't be more boring. He just really doesn't have much to say, ever. They don't really seem to have anything to talk about. She could ask him questions about his son, or pretty much anything about his life to get him talking, but she doesn't really seem to have any interest.

After dinner, they climb to the top of the lighthouse...where she dumps him. Nothing like an awkward walk down that lonely spiral staircase...all alone. And no, I still can't figure out who he reminds me of ...darn it!

Group Date: Brooks, Bryden, Zack K., Kasey, Drew, Juan Pablo, Zak W., Mikey, Ben, Michael, Chris

I'm so excited to see this group date because I've seen the pictures...nothing more to say.

The guys are about to compete in the Mr. America pageant! They will be asked questions, will perform a talent, and of course compete in a swimsuit round!

Interview:

Did well: Kasey, Brooks, Juan Pablo
Did not do so well: Chris, Mikey

Talents:

Kasey: Tap dancing act. He added quite a bit of comedy to it, and did actually look like he had some moves.
Mikey: Did a Michael Jackson impersonation dancing with a hat white gloves on. He also took off his shirt and did a handstand/pushups.
Brooks: He played the ukele and sang...very poorly, a song he made up. Ouch...it was painful. Then at the end of the song, he smashed his ukulele on the ground.
Ben: He did a rhythmic gymnastics routine using the ribbon and flailed his arms around on stage like a crazy person.
Drew: Read a scene from Romeo & Juliet.
Chris: He came out in women’s heels, and hula hooped around his arms and waist.
Bryden: Looked like he was re-enacting scenes from the movie Magic Mike. That takes a brave man to do pelvic thrusts right in front of, not only Des, but the mayor and Miss America.
Zak W.: He played the guitar and sang. He actually did a really good job.

Swimsuit Competition:
We didn't get to see nearly enough of this portion :)

2nd Runner-Up: Brooks
1st Runner-Up: Zak W.
The Winner: Kasey (I loved his fake crying, reminiscent of Sandra Bullock's character on Miss Congeniality.)

After the competition...Chris wants to show his more serious side, so he reads her a poem that he wrote for her.

Meanwhile, everyone else is still very much so preoccupied with Ben. The guys' fascination and obsession about Ben is more than a little overboard and just a little weird. The guys find it weird that they have heard more about Ben's bar than about his son. They are so obsessed with what he says and does that they throw a hissy fit because he chooses to talk to Des right in front of them, instead of going off somewhere else. Really guys? GET OVER IT!

Zak W. plays the rest of the song that he wrote and performed in the pageant. Wes better watch out because Zak might just give him a run for his money. His song is 100x better than Wes'.

And the rose goes to...Zak W.

One-on-One Date: James
They take a helicopter ride to see the devastation of Hurricane Sandy...how romantic. They then meet with a couple, Jan & Manny, who spent their anniversary at a Red Cross shelter. Des and James decide to give their date to Atlantic City to Jan & Manny. No offense to this lovely couple, and I think what Des and James did was very nice, BUT...I feel like we saw more of them than of Des and James. They talked to them for a long time, and then we see Jan & Manny on their date, too? This is The Bachelorette, shouldn't we be seeing Des on her dates with these guys, and not so much watching someone else celebrate their anniversary? I think they showed way too much of them.

At dinner, James opened up to Des and he confessed that he cheated on his girlfriend of 5 years. That's a red flag right there. It's great that he was honest about it, but if he's done it once, who's to say he won't do it again.

Later, they all get a private concert by Darius Rucker.

James gets a rose.

Cocktail Party

Bryden is having some serious doubts. He didn't get to talk to Des on their group date. He feels like he's falling behind the other guys and he said that even if she offers him a rose, he's not sure he would accept it. He expressed his feelings to the guys...which I'm not sure was a good thing. He and Des talk, and she does her best to reassure him that she wants him there and that she hopes that he will stay so they can see where this goes.

Michael wanted to tell Des all the reasons why he likes her. He wrote out the letters of her name and told her something that started with that letter. He then got his first kiss with her.

Chris is funny but awkward. Somehow, he almost corners himself into the Friend Zone, by saying they are BFFs. Luckily, he gets a kiss, so he might be in the clear.

Rose Ceremony

Get roses: Chris, Brooks, Juan Pablo, Drew, Michael, Ben, Kasey, Bryden, Mikey and Zak and James who got roses on their dates

Zack K. is eliminated (along with Brad who didn't get a rose on his date). Who was this guy? Did he ever say more than 2 words on the show? He's shocked, but we shouldn't be since this is the 4th episode, and I literally wouldn't have been able to pick him out of a line-up.
