Big Brother, Ep. 17.22

Steve, Steve, Steve
What can you say about Steve? He's just so weird! He talks to himself/the cameras more than anyone we've seen. He said that Becky's speech was entirely accurate. He doesn't get along with her on a strategic level and he would like nothing more than to win Veto to basically throw it in Becky's face so she can become his target next week.

What's this? Steve is talking to another human being? He actually approached Vanessa. She wanted to make a deal with him. She wants him to pick her to play Veto if he would draw Houseguest's Choice. She would play hard for him and would try to take him off. She said she also made the same deal with Shelli.

Shelli & John
They decide to catch up and make sure they are both on the same page. Shelli asked him if the plan really was to backdoor Vanessa. He said "I think so?"...kind of as a question. She said if she gets Houseguests Choice, she wonders what she should do. She told Vanessa she would pick her. She wondered if she should pick John. She's worried that if she picks him that Vanessa will think something's up. They are both worried that if Steve wins Veto and Shelli stays on the block with her that the plan could easily flip and she would be in trouble. John said he would talk to Steve and he said he was going to Veto her. John seems like he really does want to work with Shelli. She really needs him this week. He's done so much for her and Clay already though...will he continue to put himself in jeopardy?

John told Steve the plan to backdoor Vanessa. Steve is upset. He wants to tell Vanessa what they are doing, but by doing that, he's only shifting the target from her to himself. John wants Steve to pick him if he gets Houseguest Choice. Then John told him the even worse news: if John plays and wins Veto, he won't be saving him, he will be saving Shelli (in order to ensure that Vanessa would be going home). Steve said he was basically asking him to volunteer to go on the block. John was like "yeah". Oh my how the tables have turned! For weeks, it was everyone coming to Johnny Mac and saying will you please do this for us? And he would sheepishly agree. Now he's doing the same thing to Steve! Steve asked if he thinks he is safe, and John said he was. Steve asked why. John said "because you haven't won anything!". John said he really wants to work with him and Shelli because they don't really have anyone else. He said he was really trusting him with a lot of stuff.

John leaves, and Steve is alone with his thoughts (and the cameras). He says "my 2 closest allies hate each other...I have no idea what to do...I have no idea what to do. Mom, I need you right now". Wow...

Liz & Austin
Liz admits that her relationship with Austin started out purely strategic. She said the more she hangs out with him, the more she likes him. Her relationship with him could be turning into something more. She said his personality has won her over. She hopes that one day, she will be able to convince him to chop off his ponytail beard. Yes, please!

Veto Player Draw
Becky draws Austin
Shelli draws Houseguest's Choice and she chose Vanessa (of course, the one thing she didn't want)
Steve draws Meg

John is FREAKING OUT! He thinks she is going to ruin the whole plan. Shelli told John that she didn't know what to do. She said if she didn't pick Vanessa, Vanessa would be blowing up right now. John thinks if Vanessa doesn't get picked to play, she doesn't have a chance to fight for herself, and she goes home, so it doesn't matter. Shelli thinks that was the only move to save herself because she is sure that Vanessa will play hard and that she will save her if she wins.

Veto Competition
It's a one-at-a-time competition, where they have to match up the comic book covers and put them in the correct order. They will zip on a zipline to look at the wall and then line up the comics. To make it harder, each cover has a decoy. This comp would be cool if it wasn't a complete copy of one they did last year. I mean it is a complete copy in the zipline and the superheroes on the comics.

Meg is up first. She isn't seeing too many differnces...she's never ziplined before, and she keeps clumsily falling all over the place. She decides to put them in order first and then decide what the differences are. She gets very distracted by how funny the psters are. Ooh, they reveal her mistakes and she has like 5. She gets it down to one mistake and it's Clay.

Becky has a weird strategy. She decides to work on all the guys' pictures first and figure out the differences, and then work on the girls. The problem is that she swears that some of the posters don't have any differences. She seems to be moving quickly, and has just one mistake,

Shelli's strategy is to memorize 4 at a time. She thinks since she has good attention to detail that she should have no problem with this. They reveal her errors and she had like 8 or more. She realized that she was so worried about the order that she wasn't paying attention to the differences.

Austin's strategy is to use his athleticism to move quickly. He seems very out of breath for someone who works out all the time and wrestles for a living. He is quickly distracted by Liz's poster and starts daydreaming about a vineyard.

Steve's strategy is to get the order right first, then he will look at the differences and get the right poster. That seems to be the most logical way to approach this comp. I would expect nothing less fro the self-called superfan. He gets stuck on Becky's posters. He can't see the difference. It was obvous, right in front of his face, it was the thing on her chest. He was upset that Becky continues to mess up his game!

Vanessa's strategy is the same as Steve's. Again, another smart person with a smart strategy. I have a feeling this is going to come down to seconds between her and Steve.

The Results
Meg - 15:30
Becky - 17:02
Shelli - 25:31
Austin - 21:20
Steve - 13:57
Vanessa - 21:44

Steve wins Veto! He actually won something! OK, so there's quite a few surprises on this one. Meg looked like she was not moving that quickly and she ended up with the 2nd best time. Shelli had a really horrible time which was surprising. I also thought Vanessa would have been a lot closer to Steve's time.

Paranoid Vanessa
Vanessa calls out James for lying. She said she can see right through him. She asked if Becky was sticking to the plan because she hasn't come right out and told her that. James tried to say that he didn't know and that Becky hadn't talked to him about the plan. She saw right through it and suspected that she was the target. James told her to just talk to Becky because he wanted out of there as fast as he could go. He told Meg that he was under heavy fire and that Vanessa was throwing grenades at him. He said he didn't know what to do because she just kept coming at him.

Vanessa goes to talk to Becky. She said she was in Becky's place and did a lot of dirty work to keep her safe the week she was up. Becky thinks she doesn't owe Vanessa anything. Becky told Vanessa she wasn't putting her up and that she has been telling her that but she still is paranoid.

Vanessa then went to Jackie, Meg, Austin, and James. She said she suspects that Becky might not stick with the plan. She asked if they all wanted to make a deal. Meg said she thought they already did that. She is definitely poking around to see if anyone will budge. Jackie said something like "you never know" and Vanessa picked up on that and was like "exactly". I'm telling you, she disects everything everyone says...and she is spot on every time.

Veto Meeting
Steve opts to use the Veto on himself, as expected.

Becky stays true to her plan...but was there any doubt that she would waiver? Not based on the last couple of conversations that we saw her have.

So, Vanessa is put up as the replacement nominee, and I think it's about to hit the fan.

In Becky's speech, she said that she doesn't know who Vanessa is with in the game and who she's against. She said that she is so influential in the house and she can spin amazing deals with people and make HOH deals. She said she's seen her, when people need her the most, drop them like that, if it doesn't benefit her game (but wouldn't anyone do that?). Those are the reasons she thins she deserves to be sitting in that spot.
