Love In The Wild, Ep. 2.4

This episode starts out just after the last couple ceremony ended. 6 couples are left and each couple seems to have a different vibe:

Ken and Yanina are the "happiest couple"
Ben and Michelle are the "giddy and giggly couple"
Jason and Vanessa are the "sweet couple"
Chase and Summer are the "hopeful couple"
Jesse and Ali are the "annoyed and unsure couple"
Ryan and Jenna are the....the..."I have no idea who they are couple"

Everyone begins to call Jesse out for what he did to Tara, and they all want Jesse gone, especially Ken. Ali begins to regret accepting Jesse's invitation, as he tries to get a little more than friendly on the first night in the lean-to. Ali's not having any of it, and off-handedly asks if she can do the ceremony again. This could be a very long adventure for these two.

The next day, the couples gather to get their adventure instructions from Jenny McCarthy, the most annoying host ever. She's holding some coconuts and tells the groups that she was thinking about how coconuts and relationships are alike. SHE was thinking? Really? I highly doubt she went to the producers with this cool idea for a challenge. Her thought is that they are similar because both look the same on the outside, but once you break them open, they are either delicious or rotten. Then Jenny spouts off her first of two totally lame jokes: "Ben are you staring at my coconuts?" Wow. On to the challenge: the couples first have to get 55 coconuts up a hill to trade for a horse. They will then take the horse up the mountain to find a clue. The clue will lead them to some tools and to a banana field where they must gather 50 lb of bananas. The team that finishes first gets to go to the Oasis and will be safe.

The first part of the challenge with the coconuts could be handled a couple different ways. They could use a wheelbarrow, but they had to assemble it. Ben with his quick wit says, "Never built a wheelbarrow. I'm trying to think of the most successful thing I've built, um, it's probably like a sandwich." Haha! I'm liking him more and more each week. All of the couples opt to build the wheelbarrow, or at least part of the wheelbarrow (some didn't put the wheel on and just carried it). Quickly the teams realized they would have to make 2 trips. Not Jesse, though. He vowed to make it there with 55 coconuts in one trip, even if it killed him. Ali had trouble counting, so he told her to make sure to put some extra on top. All of this squabbling, left them in last place...even after all of the other teams had to go back for more. But hey, he accomplished his goal of doing it all in one trip, so: WINNING!

Some of the couples had a little trouble with their horses being either slow or stubborn, so that provided some entertainment. Michelle commented that their horse was cute, but Ben said, "he's not cute, he's hungover." Ha! "Come on, mate", he says in his cute British accent. To cut the challenge short, the basic highlights were the oopses:

  • Jesse's ego cost them at the beginning
  • Jason and Vanessa lose their map underneath a waterfall and spend quite a long time diving for it once they realize it's not in the tube that they retrieved
  • Ken and Yanina and Chase and Summer are battling for first and second, Yanina tries to tell Ken they need tools to cut the bananas, but he doesn't listen and as they continue to struggle to get in front of the other team, BOTH teams miss the trail to the tools and end up hiking the WHOLE WAY up the mountain, only to have to go ALL THE WAY back down to get the tools; meanwhile teams 3, 4 and 5 get the tools and pass the first 2 teams by (while Jason and Vanessa are still looking for their map)
When all is said and done, Ken's worst fear was realized when Jesse and Ali narrowly passed Ben and Michelle to get first place (which is really impressive considering they were in dead last halfway through). Coming in third was Ryan and Jenna, fourth was Ken and Yanina, fifth was Chase and Summer, and coming in last was Jason and Vanessa. Cue Jenny McCarthy's 2nd of 2 horrible attempts at a joke: "Jason, is that a banana in your pants or are you just happy to see me." Gag...I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Jesse and Ali are off to the Oasis, and Ali isn't all that thrilled because she knows that Jesse will make her uncomfortable by trying to force something romantically, which she isn't ready for. Once at the Oasis, Ali was right, and the couple just begin fighting about everything, and it's pretty obvious nothing is going to happen with them. Ali says she might try to use the friendship angle to her advantage, and he basically says she is a Debbie Downer, and screwed him by not being honest from the beginning. She says he's the one night stand that won't go away...ouch!

Ben and Michelle are pretty happy with their second place finish, especially since this is their first adventure. Another great "Benism", as I'm going to start calling them: "We're both absolutely cream crackered. Cream crackered means knackered, and knackered means shired, and shired means tired." Wow that was a mouthful, and I'm not sure what it all means, but it was pretty funny to hear him say it.

Time for the Couple Ceremony. Jesse and Ali have first choice since they won the adventure, but before either of them can say anything, Ken interrupts and basically issues Jesse a warning. He says that many of the couples have formed true relationships and that he shouldn't do anything to break up what they have. Ali chooses first, and not surprisingly, she wants to choose another partner, but who will it be? It's hard to imagine any of the couples being broken up at this point other than maybe Ryan and Jenna. Ali chooses Ben! Shocker! Unluckily for Ben, he can't refuse her, so his romance with Michelle is going to have to go on hold, at least for the time being. He was visibly shocked and both he and Michelle looked pretty sad. Now it's Jesse's turn. He announces that his decision is different than what he was originally going to do, based on what Ali did. He said he was going to take a chance in the Unmatched Area, but has now decided to choose Michelle because he didn't want his friend's girl to go home. Don't know if I buy that, but at least Ben and Michelle still might have a chance to eventually get back together.

Next up is Jenna and Ryan. She wants to stay and he gladly accepts.

It's no surprise that Yanina wants to stay with Ken, and vice versa. But it can't be that simple can it? Ken starts mouthing off to Jesse and they start going at it. Eventually, Ben, the voice of reason, basically tells them both to knock it off. Don't see those 2 guys having a bromance any time soon.

The last to choose are Chase and Summer. They both decide to stick with each other, which means that Jason and Vanessa go home. Too bad, I was really starting to like both of them. They both said that they'd like to continue a relationship after the show, so maybe they will have a happy ending.

What will next week bring? Can Jesse win again to stay a little longer? If he loses, he can be sure he's got a huge target on his back, and at this point, it's going to be hard to find a girl who will want to be his partner.
