Survivor, Ep. 33.14: Finale

Sorry, this is so late. I was without my laptop for a couple of days. So, because there are already so many recaps out there, I'm not going to go into as much detail as I normally do, but I will just give the basics of what took place in this most epic finale to a truly awesome finale!

6 players left - 3 Gen-Xers and 3 Millennials

Bret can't believe the "losahs" he's playing with, who continue to keep David in the game, while getting out people who aren't threats.

David decides to stir the pot - he has been collecting beads and trinkets from treemail, water bottles, etc. all season, and he grabs some of their paint, and he fashions the most realistic looking fake idol to date. He paints an emblem on a coconut and puts the idol inside it. He mixed red and white paint together to make pink - which isn't a color they had, so someone wouldn't think that it was made by someone at camp. Genius! He is hoping to go fishing and catch a fish - Jay. At first, I didn't see the point in making someone else find the idol, because really, what could it do other than make them think they are safe. But then, it dawned on me. By doing that, the person will think they found the idol...and STOP LOOKING for a real idol. Genius! Normally, when someone makes a fake idol, they do it to convince others that they have it to avoid votes being cast for them. This was a different way to approach it. Well, his plan worked flawlessly. Jay finds the idol and is ecstatic, because now, no matter what...he's safe (except he isn't). Oh, poor Jay. I hate to see this happening to him! Seeing how happy he was just kills me, because I know this isn't going to end well. He was so shocked to find it that it probably clouded his judgment a little. He didn't question the authenticity of it at all. He didn't even notice that there wasn't a paper with any instructions on it, proving that it was real.

Immunity Challenge #1

  • Jay moves quickly and is the first to get the combination - but HE DOESN'T COVER HIS ANSWER WITH THE SHEET! This allows everyone else to look at his answer and copy it. Although, it still took David 3 tries to memorize the 6 digits.
  • Jay, frustrated with himself says, "You had the lead, you bozo!" :(
  • David, somehow catches up and gets the hanging puzzle together first and wins!
  • Jay decides to steal the steak reward from David. BUT he does the most awesome thing with it! He takes David, who won it outright, and he also takes Adam, because Adam gave him the advantage, even though he didn't have to. So nice!!!! That just worked out so well, and he made the absolute best decision with that! Just goes to show how much these players love and respect each other.
  • Jay also hopes to talk David and Adam to keep him, so he wouldn't have to play his idol

Bret knows the easiest decision is to vote out Jay, but he knows he's playing with some nut jobs, who haven't been making the right decisions. David thinks Bret will win if he makes it to the end. Jay promises Adam that he will take him and Hannah to final 3 and he doesn't think the others would do the same. He hopes their bond will be enough for Adam to give him another chance. Adam tells him he will.

Tribal Council #1
  • David and Bret go back and forth claiming that the other person is a huge threat.
  • Jeff calls for idols, and Jay says "I'm not going home!" He has the biggest smile on his face! Everyone is shocked! Oh Jay, no, Jay :( :( Jeff says, "This is.....not a hidden immunity idol. It is a work of art, but it has not value in this game." :( I am so sad for him right now! His smile turned into shock immediately. His eyes followed the idol from Jeff's hands and right into the fire. Right there, his hopes and dreams were burning up right in front of him. He could have been angry and upset and lashed out. But, he took it with grace and said they got him. He couldn't believe it. Yeah, of course he was disappointed, but I couldn't believe how well he handled himself. He laughed it off and I think he truly respected the game move. He told Jeff, "Go ahed Jeffrey. Snuff my torch." LOL! I love this guy! He was so thankful to have just gotten a chance to play the game. So refreshing to have so many players this season who have this awesome attitude. He jokingly said he hated them all, but it was all in good fun, and he said "it was mad fun" and they were all warriors. His last words as he walked off, "A million dollar lock combination..." If only...
  • Then, out of nowhere, Ken stands up and reads his Legacy Advantage. Again, shocked faces all around! Ken gets immunity, thanks to Jessica who passed it onto him. No one can believe it!

Immunity Challenge #2
It all came down to the word puzzle at the end. So many of them were in it, and had the "participation" word, so it could have been any of them. But, it was Ken who came out victorious, spelling out "Not a participation trophy" first. Woohoo! Way to go, Ken! That means he is guaranteed a spot in the final 4.

  • Adam is putting out one last ditch effort to find an idol, as this next Tribal will be the last time that one can be used. He not only hopes to find one to save himself, but he doesn't want David to find it. He tells the others that he's having stomach issues. While out looking, he does find an idol! That makes #2 for him in this game. Nice job, Adam! He knows his mom will be so happy.
  • Hannah is the swing vote. Adam knows that voting out David is the only thing to do - he has to go. Bret is happy that his name is not being talked about at all, so he feels good. David talks about maybe voting out Adam. Hannah of course, relays that to Adam, who tells her not to worry because he found an idol. Hannah is the swing vote. She wants to vote out Bret, because she doesn't want to lose Ken's trust, which by voting out his strongest ally David, she would be doing.
Tribal Council #2
  • Jay is still all smiles over there on jury. His smile just makes me smile :)
  • Jeff calls for idols, and Adam says "Jeff, I would really, really like to get to the final 4. I think a few bullets might even be coming my way tonight. Bret looks terrified.

Bret says "The flipper flips again", in reference to Hannah. He says "David, congratulations. To the rest of you, you just lost a million dollars." He can't believe those nut jobs didn't take out David when they had the chance. He thinks they have no brains and that David is going to eat them alive.

  • Adam can't believe what just happened. He doesn't have a clue why Hannah made the decision she did.
  • David has no clue how he survived, yet again.
Immunity Challenge #3
  • After 30 minutes, Ken and Hannah have the same number of bowls stacked, so they go to a tie-breaker.
  • After 5 minutes, Ken beats Hannah by 1 bowl! Woohoo! That was close!
Vinaka Camp
  • David thinks he does not have to worry about Ken voting him out, because loyalty was his biggest thing in this game.
  • Hannah's job is to talk to Ken and persuade him to vote out David. She said she has never flipped on Ken, and that has made her loyal. She tells him that none of them will win if David goes to the end with them. He promised David that it was the 2 of them to the end, and they have been loyal friends since the beginning.
  • Adam and David know that their votes are going for each other. If Ken votes for Adam, it's a tie, and they would make fire. Adam practices his fire-making skills because David has been making fire quite a bit.
Tribal Council #3
If looks could kill, I think a few people would drop dead from Bret's "death stare".

Ken hugged David and told him he was sorry. Adam told him what an awesome game he played. David said playing Survivor was the biggest dream he had, and he was so glad he got to play it with all of them. Again, so much love. He said he didn't win the money, but he is leaving the game a different person, so he still feels like he won. If we think back to the scared person he was at the beginning, it is absolutely incredible, the player and the person that he's become. Like Jeff said, he should have been the first one voted out. And for him to have made it to the final 4, that is just absolutely incredible. He should be so proud of the game he played. He ended up being the most feared person because everyone would have voted for him to win. That has to feel good.

Tribal Council #4
This final Tribal, probably moreso than others, really was kind of pointless. I think it was pretty clear that every jury member already had their minds made up on who they were voting for (even though Taylor said his mind wasn't made up). There were really no thought-provoking questions, or questions that revealed anything interesting. I will say that Hannah put up a good fight. She had legitimate points and things to back up why she did what she did. She blamed Adam for taking credit for moves that were her idea. However, Adam accused her of being so unpredictable, that her alliance members didn't know what she was going to do, and also that the moves she made really weren't great moves. Especially, the vote for Bret over David. He said that was the wrong move. He was basically saying that the dumb moves that she made didn't necessarily get her further in the game, she just kind of got lucky.

Jessica asked Ken why he talked of loyalty, and in the end voted out the one person he said he would be loyal to. His response was so heart-felt. He said that Dave was his #2 alliance. His first alliance was to his daughter, and that was the only reason he voted Dave out. Jessica appreciated his honesty. You could tell he was very emotional, and very sincere about wishing he didn't have to do that to Dave. Will followed up later by saying that he actually respected Ken more for voting Dave out because it was the right move, and the only chance he had of winning.

Jay asked Adam why he didn't give him a chance when he promised he would take him to the end. Adam said Jay knew why he was playing the game, and Jay was in the way and that was the only reason. Jay said he didn't have to talk about the reason, and he understood.

David asked about why they played the game and what they are taking from it. It was at that point that Adam broked down and told everyone about his mom. Everyone had tears after hearing his story. After the finale, Adam said he hadn't planned on sharing that, because he thought he could win without it, and he knew that some would think that if he won, it was only out of sympathy or pity. Chris ended by giving his endorsement for Adam, and telling everyone else that they should vote for Adam, too.

It was clear by the reactions of the jury, that they really didn't have any intention of voting for Ken. They pretty much just counted him out. And they really didn't give much credit to Hannah for anything that she did, no matter how well she argued her points. It was clear that it was Adam's to lose.

The Final Votes!
There's no need to write his name over and over again...Adam won in a landslide. Every single vote!

The winner of Survivor Season 33 is Adam Klein!

I have to say, I am so incredibly happy for this kid! Like he said, this is his life. It might sound like one big, fantastic story from outsiders, but it really happened, and it is his life. You almost couldn't write a better story. He deserved to win the game for his gameplay, and he deserved to win the game because of his personal story. During the reunion, he shared that he was able to fly home right after the game. His mom had been very strong the past few days, but by the time he got home, he was able to hug her, tell her he loved her, and he told her that he won. He truly knew he won, and he thinks she knew that, too. Unfortunately, only an hour later, she passed away. She seemingly held on long enough just to see him again. How heartbreaking!

Adam said he wants to donate $100,000 of the prize money to lung cancer research.

The result of this season just was the perfect capper to one of the most exciting, entertaining seasons ever. This cast was such a gem. They all so clearly love and respect each other. There were no villains this season. Everyone played their hearts out, as if they were playing for their 2nd time. This is what Jeff has been telling people who want to play this game. There were so many great personal growths as well. Looking back, just think about how much David, Zeke, and Hannah all grew as people. The change is incredible. Not only that, but physically! Bret lost 36 pounds, Chris lost 33 pounds, Will lost 20 pounds, Sunday lost like 25 pounds as well. Bret and Sunday, especially, all look extremely different than when they started this game.

We know that Michaela and Zeke will be playing next season. I sure hope that some of the others from this season get a chance to play again, because so many deserve another shot (hahem...Jay...).

There is so much more that could be said about this season. I just loved watching this season. It will go down in history as one of the best. Thanks guys, you were all amazing!
