The first twist of the season is a first for any Big Brother show around the world: they will be playing in pairs!
The second twist of the season is that there will be "the power", which is like our (the US) Head of Household (HOH). Since they are playing in pairs, there will be 2 HOHs. I'm really hoping that this twist doesn't take away from the fun. Part of what makes BBAU and BBUK so fun and special is that the public did all the voting to eliminate and there was no strategy involved--they could just be there and have fun with each other. I really hope the new Head of House power doesn't ruin that.
Another change for this season is that the house is 2 stories this season. They really outdid themselves this year with the house--it's HUGE! And I mean HUGE!

Pairs
As the first person to enter the house, Priya is given 2 options to choose from for her partner. Katie and Jade. One would be a good match with her and the other one not so much. The pairs will sleep together (in twin beds pushed together), be rewarded together, be punished together, nominate together and get nominated together.
Priya chose Katie because she thought Jake would be a safe choice and choosing Katie would be normally the type of person she wouldn't choose, and that might be fun to see what happens. Sonya lets everyone know that Katie was the bad psychological match. Their pair color is Gold.
Jake chose Gemma even though he likes David's shirt and his beard. He ultimately said that wasn't him, so he chose Gemma. He was super excited with his choice! Jake also chose his bad psychological match. Their pair color is Red.
David chose Sandra because said he gets along well with females and he was worried that Dion's arms were better than his and he didn't want to be outdone. David picked his good match by picking Sandra. Their pair color is Blue.
Dion chose Jason. I'm so glad he picked Jason. He would have been miserable with Skye. Right away it seemed like they would have a lot in common. Dion chose his good match. Their pair color is Yellow.
Skye chose Lisa because they are very similar. They could be sisters they are so similar. She said she didn't choose Travis because he doesn't like girls who cry and who are attention seeking, and she's both. Skye picked her bad match! How could that be? Their pair color is Pink.
Travis didn't get to choose his partner, Ryan, as they are the last ones to enter the house on Night 1. Their pair color is Purple.
Sam's partner Cat, was chosen for him. Their pair color is Green.
Aisha's partner Lawson was chosen for him. Their pair color is Gray.
The Power
Priya and Katie are called to the Power Room, where Big Brother tells them what their power is.
They will be faced with tough decisions called "Power Plays". This sounds a lot like what they had to do on BBUK this past season.
Power Play #1: Big Brother is throwing a party. All pairs are invited, except 1 pair. They have to choose which pair has to spend their whole first night in the Fish Bowl, which is a circular glass tube in the middle of the pool. They chose Jason & Dion and said that they thought they would pick a couple who would have fun and would be OK by themselves. Those poor guys...it started to rain and Jason thought he was drowning. Ha! All they got were sleeping bags and Jason slept with his head in a garbage can.
Power Play #2: They are shown $20,000, and Big Brother said he is giving away prize money early this year. They can choose between getting $100 each no questions asked, $1,000 and no food in the house for 3 days, or $10,000 each and no food in the house for a week. After 24 hours, they chose the $10,00 because the house won't starve (they will get meal replacement shakes).
1st Punishment
Big Brother said that someone smuggled a watch into the house. Big Brother asked the person to own up. Jason was the offender, but Dion tried to take the fall for it. Jason said he didn't smuggle it in. He had it in his bag and he assumed it would be confiscated, but it wasn't.
Their punishment was to spend some more time in the Fish Bowl. Jason felt bad that Dion was being punished also. They had to also count to 5,000 while inside. It took them 48 minutes to do.
The Truth About the Money
Priya and Katie have to tell the group about their dilemma. They had to come out with fanny packs with the money in them. They told the group what the money was going to do for them. Katie said it would make her rent-free. For Priya the money was going toward her mortgage on her house, which at the moment, her husband was bearing most of the financial responsibility for. Then came the bad news. They had to tell everyone that they were going to be forced to have meal replacement shakes for a whole week. Katie was so worried that everyone was going to hate them. However, the group couldn't have been happier for both of them! That was so nice to see. I think it helped that both of them had very valid financial reasons for needing and taking the money. They weren't even so worried about not having food. Ryan said it would be no dishes for anyone to have to do.
Big Brother puts a Diner in the backyard. The only way to get anything at the Diner is to pay cash. Of course Priya and Katie are the only ones with any cash. Because everything was so ridiculously over-priced, the house agreed that they would be OK with the shakes (at least for now).
The next day, Sandra was dying for coffee. Katie was willing to use $30 to get her a coffee. Katie gave herself a budget of $1000 to use, and Priya agreed that was a good idea. That way they can help their housemates happy, but still keep most of the money for themselves.
Jake, Lawson, and Lisa play a joke on Priya and hid her money belt while she was in the shower. She thinks she knows who did it. She told Lawson that Big Brother told her he wants the money belt back. He said he didn't know where it was. Lisa asked if someone knows where it is, how much would it be worth to Priya to get it back. It didn't matter because after a lot of searching, she found the money on her own, hidden behind a plant on the wall.
The game changes a little when the girls tell the group that the $20,000 they got was out of the total prize money at the end of the game. The end prize will now only be $230,000 instead of $250,000. Some of the house felt like they deserved to know that from the beginning and now they deserve to have a portion of the money to be able to buy food.
They decide to make the budget $300 per person for the rest of the week while they are without food. Priya is worried that there could be times after the week that they might have to use even more money. The house seemed very appreciative of this decision.
The first big spend was for prime ribs, chips and a drink. They spent $800 for 8 meals, that the 16 of them would share.
Sandra
Sandra is having a tough time in the house. She is saying she isn't having any fun, and she might want to go home.
Talent Show
Magic Show--Lawson puts on a magic show for the house. He did some card tricks and had the whole house in awe. Ryan said in the DR that he doesn't like magicians, and if Lawson's magic was rubbish, he wouldn't hold back and he would say something. Even he was impressed with his tricks and thought he was the real deal.
Jake's Rap--Jake put on his own show with some self-style rap. He's really good! Skye and Aisha were impressed. Skye has a little crush.
Immunity Pass
Priya and Katie's reign is now over. Big Brother offers them an Immunity Pass. They have to decide as a pair. They offer Big Brother $400...he laughs at that. They offer $2500, but Big Brother will only accept $3000. Priya didn't want to do it, but Katie convinced her that everyone will nominate them because it's the easy thing to do. I agree. I think they would have been nominated by everyone.
Power Shift
Each week, the public will be voting on who they want to see as the HOH pair.
The new HOH is: Dion and Jake! Yes! That's who I was hoping for!
The HOHs can bring 1 pair into the Power Room to talk strategy and help them decide who should be nominated. They bring Travis & Ryan.
They all agreed that out of everyone, Gemma fits in the least. They love Jake though. It's hard because they do have to pick pairs.
Party
Big Brother throws a party to celebrate the new Heads of House, and to celebrate their first week in the house. They choose Lisa &Skye to cook the meal.
Lots of drama at the party:
- Lisa overheard David talking about her boobs, and how they weren't that great, when they were getting ready for the party, and that upset her. I love that Dion was consoling her and telling her what a good person she is and that she shouldn't listen to what she heard.
- Skye got red wine on the dress she was wearing that she borrowed from Lisa. Jason showed them how to get the stain out by using salt.
- They played the game where you pass an orange from one neck to another and Katie put up a fuss for not wanting to pass it to David.
- Pashes in the spa: Skye and Jake, Travis and Aisha, Skye and Aisha,
The Sanctuary
As HOHs, Dion & Jason get to spend time in the Sanctuary. They get to be pampered, and they have movies and games.
