Duets, Ep. 1.10

Finale night is here. I have absolutely no idea who is going to win. I like all three. If I had to guess, I think I'd go with J Rome, but we'll see. I could really do without all the extra stuff tonight. I really don't want to see eliminated contestants perform again. Just tell me who wins and be done.

Each of the contestants perform again with their coach. John was great on a song from Wicked, nothing new there. He's always consistent. Jason just rocked Elvis! J Rome was great again, as usual, except at the end, his falsetto was a little off.

Finally, we get to the results. 3rd place is Jason.

Now, if I have to guess the winner, I'm going to say it is 100% a Jennifer Nettles contestant, and it will be someone who's name starts with a J. And the winner is: J Rome!!! And, I was right!

The final 2 are both with Jennifer Nettles's singers, so apparently she did something right.

Will there be a season 2? And if so, will the judges all stay the same? Something to think about. In the mean time, the next singing competition up is X Factor, which will be starting soon.

Duets, Ep. 1.9

With next week being the finale, tonight's elimination will give us the top 3 finalists. Bridget's song last week was way too boring. My guess is that she will be in the bottom 2. Yep! Jason is through to the finals! Yay! John is the other member of the bottom 2 this week. He should  be safe, but you never know. Yep, I was totally right! That would have been a huge upset if he would have gone, because I think he's been a fan favorite all season. So, we have an all-guy final 3. Jennifer Nettles somehow has both of her contestants left, and Kelly has one, while both John Legend and Robin Thicke have 0.

Hopefully we will have some better, more modern song choices this week. I like the top 3, so I hope they all bring it!

Duets, Ep. 1.8 (The Standards)

Singing the Standards (aka “old songs”) ...yuck! Thank goodness it's only an hour show tonight, I don't know if I could make it if it was much longer.

Live Results from Last Week's Vote:
Jason: safe
Olivia: in the bottom 2
J Rome: safe
John: safe
Bridget: in the bottom 2

Going home: Olivia ...America got it right!!!!! It's about time! My vote was right last week. Robin is now the first celebrity to lose both of his partners.

Bridget and John Legend “Unforgettable” (Oh, how I've always hated that song!!)
With the first few words, I'm already bored out of my mind! With a song this terrible, the only good thing I can say about it is that she hit all the notes and blended well with John. Other than that, it was just painful. I kept saying to myself: 'is it over yet?' and 'if they say 'unforgettable' one more time, I'm going to have to cut my ears off. Vocally, it was a good performance, just not my style, AT ALL.

J Rome and Jennifer Nettles, “God Bless the Child”
I think this will be a pretty good song for J Rome. He sings so smoothly and beautifully. It's another great performance. Could someone tell Jennifer to stop singing so low...it's really annoying. Overall, another really good performance.

John and Jennifer Nettles, “Georgia on My Mind”
Both being from the same town in Georgia, this was obviously a perfect choice for them. Another great performance from John. I think he could win the show.

Jason and Kelly Clarkson, “Feeling Good”
This seems like kind of an odd choice for Jason. He's getting so much better each week. He is killing this song! Wow, that was so good! I hope he can get the votes because he's becoming one of my favorites!

My Ranking This Week:
The Top 3 guys with a 'J' are too close to call I think. They all were really good, so they could end up in any order.
1. John
2. Jason
3. J Rome
4. Bridget – going home

Not only was Bridget in the bottom 2, but she sang the slowest, most boring song and performed first. That's 3 strikes, so I think she's out!

Duets, Ep. 1.7 (Songs from the 2000s)

So, I haven't weighed in on Duets yet, so here are my thoughts on tonight's show.

John and Jennifer Nettles
I've really liked John so far this season. I thought he did OK tonight on the Josh Groban song, but I didn't think it was his best. It just seemed like it was a little too over the top. Not near as good as last week.

Olivia and Robin Thicke
Let's just tell it like it is: Olivia was HORRIBLE tonight! She was pitchy all over the place. I don't think she sang one note on the right pitch. I think every week she's actually getting worse. At the beginning of the competition I thought she was pretty good, but she should have been voted out a couple weeks ago when she was in the bottom. I'm not sure how she has survived the past couple of weeks. A big "thank you" to Kelly Clarkson for agreeing that she was pitchy. That's one of the reasons why she's my favorite of the celebrity partners: she's not afraid to say what she thinks.

Jason and Kelly Clarkson
Whoa, Kelly's blonde this week!
Jason is the opposite of Olivia, he's getting better every week. He started out the competition very nervous and unsure of himself, but he's gained more confidence each week and it's definitely making him a better singer. It helps that he and Kelly sound very good together. Their performance was my favorite of the night.

Bridget and John Legend
I think this was a good song for the duet. She has been a pretty consistent singer throughout the competition, and she didn't disappoint this week. As good and consistent as she is, I haven't been totally blown away with her. I think she's probably in the middle of the pack.

J Rome and Jennifer Nettles
Boy did he start out shaky! That is very unlike him, he's usually pretty solid. He did get better as the song went on though, and finished it nicely. Can I just say that the more I see/hear Jennifer, the more she annoys me. I hate saying that because I think she's a decent singer, and I think she's a very nice person, but there's just something about her that tends to rub me the wrong way. I especially don't really like the way she sings some of her words, I don't know, it just seems odd. I also think that she tries to outsing her partners, and sometimes you don't even hear them because she is so loud.

This week is the first week that America decides who goes home. I really can't see how Olivia will survive after this week. She was so pitiful, and everyone else had a pretty good week. I also don't really think she has much of a personality, and her stage presence is very lacking as well. She always looks terrified on stage and she never really looks like she knows what she's doing.

Here's how I would rank them tonight (I'm sure America will vote differently):
1. Jason
2. Bridget
3. J Rome
4. John
5. Olivia - going home
