Dancing with the Stars, Ep. 23.8

Theme: Halloween!

Highest score will get immunity from the instant dance-off. If there's a tie, they will look at cumulative scores to break the tie.

Terra & Sasha - ChaCha
Theme: Beetlejuice
It started out way slow for a chacha, and not much chacha going on. Once they got off the table, it picked up, but just slightly. I would say this was just "meh". Not real exciting, not really even that entertaining. I think it was the song. Totally agree with Carrie Ann.
Score: 24

Laurie & Val - Viennese Waltz
Theme: Willy Wonka
This should be really fun! This dance really was like a fairytale. Val did a great job bringing it to life. She was cute and adorable as always. It was really beautiful. Val was just about in tears at the end of it, just like he was in the rehearsal. This dance made him so emotional, because she is so good. Too adorable.
Score: 30

Marilu & Derek - Argentine Tango
Theme: Spiders/Spiderwebs
I love the "Sweet Dreams" and the set with the dancers using the bands like a web. Very cool! I really didn't want to like this because I'm ready for her to go home. Her footwork is way too slow and calculated. I think it needs to be a LOT sharper. Whoa, that was a big mess up! She was supposed to put her arm back around his head and she whacked him in the face! Yikes! It looked like something you would mess up in rehearsals. It totally threw her off and she didn't know what to do. There were a few other mistakes as well. She had a couple good weeks, and then last week was a major bump in the road. This didn't do much to get back in the groove. She is so in her head, I think. I'm sorry Derek, but I think she's done. He said he worked with her more last week than he has with any other partner and it wasn't great, and she didn't know why.
Score: 23

Calvin & Lindsay - Quickstep
Theme: Skeletons
I love his makeup and costume, it's fantastic! With the lights out, they really did look like dancing skeletons at times! This was such a fast quickstep. Lindsay didn't hold anything back. He continues to keep growing, just when you think he can't get any better. And those white teeth! They just glowed as usual, but looked so funny with him as a skeleton. Another great, fun dance. He's a contender, for sure!
Score: 30

Ryan & Cheryl - Tango
Theme: Maleficent
Cheryl was tough this week: Cheryl's house of pain! I think that's good...I think she can whip him into shape. He has been an underdog since day 1, and he's worked so hard to get this far. I hope they can really give him some good scores this week. I love the song, they're dancing to - it's perfect. His frame seems to be really strong and firm. I loved the slowed down part where they kind of dragged their feet..that was really cool. I think he did a great job, it was so fun! Ugh...they just always have something to pick on him for!
Score: 23

Jana & Gleb - Jazz
Theme: Little Shop of Horrors
Oh, Gleb...I just love him. He's so cute! Look at him in those glasses! Totes adorbs! What a fun routine! Her splits were amazing! Gleb's wasn't so bad either! One of her best routines yet! (Although nothing will beat their shower dance.)
Score: 27

James & Jenna - Viennese Waltz
Theme: Suicide Squad

Update: Sharna's knee injury is preventing her from dancing this week...and possibly for the rest of the competition :( We see that she slipped on her dress in rehearsals last week. She had reconstruction on the knee previously, and she felt something go. This is just so sad! She has a chance to win this season with James. No offense to Jenna, whom I love, but this was her first year as a pro, and she's been given arguably the best dancer in the competition. That is a lot of pressure! I'm not so sure that she is up to the task. Luckily, James is amazing and I'm sure he will be able to transition and work with her just as well as with Sharna. But I'm going to miss them dancing together. I hope she can come back, because I am dying to see their finale dances!

Great song for this - Grace's "You Don't Own Me". He looks amazing in that makeup. His character just continues to shine through, even with all the makeup. He brings all of his characters to life, so amazingly. He looks just like the Joker. I could watch him all day. I don't think he was quite as emotionally connected with Jenna as he would have been with Sharna, but that's totally understandable. It was still really amazing.
Score: 30

Dance-Off
James, Laurie, and Calvin all tied with 30. James has the most cumulative points, so he gets immunity. America will be voting live, as 2 couples go head-to-head. The winner of the dance-off will get 3 extra points added to their score.

Laurie & Val pick Calvin & Lindsay, who then pick Jive
Jana & Gleb pick Terra & Sasha, who then pick Salsa
Marilu & Derek will go against Ryan & Cheryl, doing a ChaCha

Laurie vs. Calvin - Jive
Judges picked Laurie & Val unanimously. America picked Laurie & Val - 63%. WINNER: Laurie & Val

Jana vs. Terra - Salsa
Judges picked Jana & Gleb 2-1. America picked Jana & Gleb - 54%.  WINNER: Jana & Gleb!

Marilu vs. Ryan - ChaCha
Judges picked Ryan & Cheryl 2-1. America picked Ryan & Cheryl - 58%. WINNER: Ryan & Cheryl!!!! Woohoo!!!!

Week 8 Leaderboard

James & Jenna --30 + 5 = 35
Laurie & Val -- 30 + 3 = 33
Calvin & Lindsay -- 30
Jana & Gleb -- 27 + 3 = 30
Ryan & Cheryl -- 23 + 3 = 26
Terra & Sasha -- 24
Marilu & Derek -- 23

Results

In Jeopardy: Ryan & Cheryl, Terra & Sasha
Going Home: Ryan & Cheryl

:( :( :(   I'm so sad to see him go, but I'm so happy for how far he made it. He made it so much further than I thought he would. Way to go, Ryan. You were awesome, and you will be missed!

Survivor, Ep. 33.6

Vanua Camp
Zeke thinks it's hilarious that Gen X got rid of one of their own, on the one tribe that they had the majority.

Ikabula Camp
I'm really starting to like Jay. He talked about being there for his mom and his sister and wanting to win it for them. He and Will go idol hunting. Jay finds a stick with their tribe symbol on it. He broke it and "ah ah ah!" there it is! He didn't try to hide it from Will. Will was super excited, too. They both agreed not to tell anyone...and then...there comes Michaela! "Whatchu got there?!" The jig is up. She says she isn't telling anyone else...unless she gets wind of something going down, and then "I'm snitchin'". LOL

Reward Challenge
It's the blindfold challenge to collect puzzle pieces.
Reward: apple pie, cookies, brownies, and more; runner-up gets some chocolate chip cookies

Jess will sit out for Takali, Bret and Hannah will sit out for Ikabula

There are 3 tribes and a lot going on, so no play-by-play on this one.

Callers: Figgy, Michelle, Jay

Hi-lights:

  • David is blindfold and completely lost and cannot follow Michelle's directions at all
  • Figgy yelled "faster Ken!" and ran him directly into a pole - ouch!
  • Ken took another big fall flat on his face
  • Michaela got frustrated with David (opposite teams) and just pushed him out of the way
  • Probst: "David finally has something to do."
  • Hannah is on the bench and said she is feeling faint - Probst told her to move to the shade
  • Vanua was in dead last, but Zeke got them back into it at the puzzle with Michelle guiding him - and they win!
  • Jay and Michaela just barely beat Ken and Figgy, who had a big lead
  • Back to Hannah - she is starting to panic because her face and hands are tingly - she asked Dr. Joe if he was going to let her die...it turns out it was kind of a panic attack, where she got too excited and was breathing too fast

Winner:Vanua
Runner-Up: Ikabula

The Voice, Ep. 11.11

The Knockout Round continues...

Team Adam

Billy Gilman vs. Ponciano Seoane

Ponciano - "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran
Nice song choice! We don't hear this Ed Sheeran song so much. I like the song choices that he has been making. I really like what he did with the song. His voice sounded great. He's really improved since his kind of shaky audition. This was a really nice performance.

Billy - "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten
Big song for Billy, but he sang it flawlessly. I really liked the way he built it up to the huge end. He can belt with the best of them. Great performance.

My Pick: Billy
Winner: Billy

Team Alicia

Belle Jewel vs. Christian Cuevas

Belle - "Don't Dream it's Over" by Crowded House
Nice, and very interesting song choice! Love it! I'm not going to lie, I HATED her audition. But this. This! I actually loved this! It's all about song choice. This was such a great and unexpected song choice. You don't hear this song 5 times every season. I don't think I've ever actually heard it on any singing show, so it's so refreshing! She sounded great. Her voice is actually beautiful. Who knew?!

Christian - "Superstar" by Luther Vandross
No, no, no, no. Ugh! Hate this song! Brings back memories of Ruben Studdard. The music starts, and I'm already bored and annoyed. I liked his audition, but if this is the kind of songs he's going to sing, I'm done.

My Pick: Belle
Winner: Christian (of course...)
Steal: Miley

Team Blake

Bindi Liebowitz vs. Courtney Harrell

Courtney - "River Deep Mountain High" by Tina Turner
Another song that has been done WAY TOO MANY TIMES! Someone make it stop! Ugh! This girl definitely has some pipes. I hate the song choice, but she sounded amazing. I do really like her voice.

Bindi - "Son of a Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield
I really like this girl. I like how she has just a tiny bit of grit to her voice. Not enough to be annoying, but just enough to make her interesting. I'm not sure that this song was big enough to compete with Courtney's.

My Pick: Bindi
Winner: Courtney

The Voice, Ep. 11.10

The Knockout Round Begins! Key advisors for all of the teams are Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

Team Adam

Dave Moisan vs. Simone Gundy

Dave - "Like I Can" by Sam Smith
Love the song choice! It definitely lends itself to his falsetto. Uh oh, didn't start out too good. Luckily, when he got to the chorus, it got better. Unfortunately, it's not going to be near strong enough to beat the likes of the belting diva, Simone :( This song ended up not being so great for him. So bummed that Adam had to pair him up against someone who he stood no chance again. His falsetto really let him down tonight. It definitely wasn't his best. It was very pitchy. She doesn't even have to sing, and I know that he has no chance, and there is no way anyone is going to use their one save on him :(

Simone - "Midnight Train to Georgia" by Gladys Knight
Of course, she would pick such a horrendous song. And of course, Adam is going to love it, and Dave doesn't stand a chance with a classic, overdone song like this :( If I have to hear this song one more time, it would be too many. There are other songs out there, you know. Her voice was strong and beautiful, as expected. No surprise here, she slayed it. It was like David vs. Goliath. This time, Goliath won :( I will say that her version is probably one of the best I've heard.

My Pick: Dave (just because)
Winner: Simone (duh!)

Jason Warrior vs. Riley Elmore

Riley - "Haven't Met You Yet" by Michael Bublé
Well, I have to say I actually like this song. It is 1000x better than his audition song. I like that he went with a more mainstream pop song, instead of the crooner junk he normally does. Unfortunately, he jazzed it up more than Michael Bublé did it. I just do not care for his voice or his style at all. He's a nice, cute kid, but just, no, sorry. He sounded pitchy and I don't think his voice sounded as polished as it did in his audition or in his battle.

Jason - "I Want You" by Luke James
His voice sounds amazing tonight. I didn't really care for the song choice, but he sang it well and it showed off his vocal range quite nicely. That high note was pretty ridiculous. And just when you thought he was done, he just kept going up higher. He nailed it, pitch perfect. Thank goodness, because it sounded atrocious in the rehearsal.

My Pick: Jason
Winner: Riley (just because he's different...ugh!...I knew it)
Steal: Blake (wow, yes!)

Team Alicia

Kylie Rothfield vs. Whitney & Shannon

Kylie - "Hound Dog" by Big Momma Thornton
Yuck...what an awful song choice. Just. No. I've liked her up until now. I did not like this one bit. She sounded shaky in some parts and just off in others. Yes, she was growling and being tough, but I was not impressed with her voice or performance at all.

Whitney & Shannon - "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz
Yes! What a great song for them! Wow, singing apart, they really struggle. The beginning was a little bit rough and shaky for each of them. They seemed so nervous. But, when they come together, they are so strong and beautiful. I really, really, really hope they get picked.

My Pick: Whitney & Shannon
Winner: Kylie (of course...blah)

Courtnie Ramirez vs. Wé McDonald

Courtnie - "If I Were a Boy" by Beyonce
Nice song choice. She started out so low and quiet, that it sounded a little flat and shaky, but as soon as she opened up and got into it, it was amazing. Unfortunately, some of her long held-out notes were a shade under pitch. It was still a pretty good performance. I don't think she can match Wé though.

Wé - "No More Drama" by Mary J. Blige
Another really great song choice. That deep voice just surprises me every time, even though I know it's coming. I cannot believe how young this girl is. Her tone is so rich. It cuts like a knife. Absolutely stunning and mind blowing. I didn't think she could top her audition song, but this might have just been better than that. Incredible. She's in a league of her own. Courtnie doesn't stand a chance. If Wé is in the Major Leagues, Courtnie is playing T-Ball.

My Pick:
Winner:

Team Blake

Josh Gallagher vs. Sundance Head

Josh - "My Maria" by Ronnie Dunn
His tone is really nice. He nailed the falsetto, which you don't hear too much from male country artists (or maybe you do, how would I know). It was a nice performance, but of course, just a bit too country for me. Nothing particularly outstanding about his performance.

Sundance - "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus
At first, I was interested to see what he would do with this song. Unfortunately, he totally ruined it. This is the first performance of his that I really haven't liked. I mean, it was OK, but I just didn't care or his voice on this song. Except for the end of the song! He had a really nice ending that really showed off his voice.

My Pick: Sundance (I was going to say Josh until the end of Sundance's song)
Winner: Sundance
Steal: Adam - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Seriously?! Adam...shame on you! I don't care how badly you want to beat Blake with a country steal! There are soooooooo many better singers to be stolen coming up and who will now be sent home. Ugh! I could NOT be more disgusted right now! What a waste...they only have 1 steal, and he used it on a mediocre country artist. Blah!

Team Miley

Ali Caldwell vs Lauren Diaz

Lauren - "Rise Up" by Andra Day
I was hoping for a little better from her. She had some nice moments, but there were some weird things going on that seemed like she should have done something different with her note choices. Her big notes were really nice.

Ali - "No Ordinary Love" by Sade
Not loving this song choice. I think she seemed to own the song more than Lauren did. She looked really comfortable on stage. She sounded great, even though the song was kind of annoying.

My Pick: Ali
Winner: Ali

Dancing with the Stars, Ep. 23.7

Eras Night
All I can say is "Holy wigs, Batman!" The guy pros have gone all out in the wig department this week!

This week, 2 dances: a solo dance and then team dances

Round 1

Laurie & Val - Quickstep
Era: 1960s
Val loves playing the loveable nerd. It's nice to see her get to do a fun, upbeat number. I will say that this dance looked more like a jive or a lindy hop and less like a quickstep. But it was super cute and super fun.
Score: 34

Ryan & Cheryl - Rumba
Era: 1990s
He did really well with his contemporary routine a few weeks ago. I think he will be able to pull off this rumba. He needs to slow down his movements a little. I feel like he's just kind of throwing his arms around a little. He definitely pulled off the sexy. I hate that they didn't use the Aerosmith version of "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" because this version really stunk and was kind of distracting. It was too fast, which made them dance too fast. It was kind of like it was a tape in fast forward. I still liked it, though, but I'm afraid it's not going to help him move up the leaderboard any.
Score: 28

Marilu & Derek - Charleston
Era: 1920s
Fun music and fun choreography. Marilu's face was a little annoying throughout. I could tell she missed a few steps here and there and they weren't in sync the whole time, but overall, she did pretty well again. I think Derek finally went too fast for her. And then there was the obvious missed timing at the end of the dance when the music ended.
Score: 29

Calvin & Lindsay - Jive
Era: 1950s
More fun from Calvin this week! Another style that suits his bubbly charismatic persona perfectly. He just keeps getting better every week. I just love that smile! He brings so much energy to the dancefloor, it's just contagious! Nice job, Calvin! We better see some higher scores than we've been seeing so far tonight.
Score: 36

Maureen & Artem - Tango
Era: 1980s
I love her hair and outfit this week! But the 80s hair band award goes to Artem for sure. But his bandana looks severely misplaced. You can't go wrong with Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name". It's actually perfect for a tango. She smiled a little too much for this angsty rock song, but it was still a good effort. The steps seemed to be there, but there was a little bit of mistiming at the end of the dance as Artem slipped on her skirt.
Score: 28

Terra & Sasha - Foxtrot
Era: 1930s
Oh, how I hate this song. This dance was just "meh". Nothing great and outstanding, but she did it well. The song ruined it for me. I did like the little nose boop that he did on her at the end to the music, though. That was cute.
Score: 34

Jana & Gleb - Samba
Era: 1970s
Oh my, Gleb! That hair is something else! It's like a hair train wreck and I can't look away. He's whipping his head so fast, I'm surprised the wig didn't just fly off. What a fun dance! I'm afraid that they weren't together enough and that they might rip into her like they did for her jive early on in the competition. I loved it, just like I loved that one, but the judges disagreed on that one.
Score: 34

James & Sharna - Jitterbug
Era: 1940s
James practicing lifts for the first time = totes adorbs. I literally can't wait to see this. The dance hasn't even officially started, but he has me grinning from ear to ear. Look at him leading those 4 pro guys...he's officially one of them. This dance totally suits his goofiness. He's goofy, yet totally masculine. He pulled off all the big lifts with ease. I smiled through the whole thing. I'm so in love with him. One of the cutest dances ever. Carrie Ann said it perfectly when she said he disappears into each role for each dance.
Score: 36

Round 2

Team Past: James & Sharna (captain, Calvin & Lindsay, Maureen & Artem, Ryan & Cheryl
I love this team - 3 hilarious male athletes...and Maureen. James's crocodile hunter impression is spot-on.

They look really good in their group choreography. It looks like they stepped right out of the French Court, doing a Viennese Waltz. I loved seeing all of their  intricate passes and twirls. Apparently, I missed their individual portions? I saw them do a little something, but it was so quick.
Score: 38

Team Future: Laurie & Val (captain), Jana & Gleb, Terra & Sasha, Marilu & Derek
Spoiler Alert: this is Derek's team, and he never loses team dances, so...

Interesting concept, but that's not surprising for Derek's team. The music could have been a little more futuristic and interesting at the beginning. Derek shoved Marilu at the end of their solo, and I don't think her fall was planned like that...it looked rather painful. Jana & Gleb's solo was impressive. Synchronicity could have been a little bit better. Overall, I was a little underwhelmed, especially for the theme.
Score: 35 - that means Derek's team loses, whoa!

Week 7 Leaderboard

Calvin & Lindsay: 36 + 38 = 74
James & Sharna: 36 + 38 = 74
Laurie & Val: 34 + 35 = 69
Terra & Sasha: 34 + 35 = 69
Jana & Gleb: 34 + 35 = 69
Ryan & Cheryl: 28 + 38 = 66
Maureen & Artem: 28 + 38 = 66
Marilu & Derek: 29 + 35 = 64

Results

In Jeopardy: Maureen & Artem, Jana & Gleb
Going Home: Maureen & Artem

Whew! That was close! Jana did not deserve to go home before Maureen. Maureen has done extremely well, but it is her time to go.

Survivor, Ep. 33.5

Gen-X Camp
David tells the group they can just let him have it. I still can't believe he played the idol! He now doesn't have the idol, he doesn't really have a solid alliance, and...none of it matters because they are swapping!

Jessica tells Ken about her advantage. She tells him that she would have passed it on to him had she been voted out. She realized that he was trying to help her and she wanted him to trust her again. He said he does trust her.

Day 13, and the "idol search party" begins. It's every man and woman for himself or herself. David felt good because he knew to look for their tribe's symbol. Sure enough, he sees a log with the symbol. But, CeCe and Sunday are too close to him, so he doesn't make a move. CeCe and Sunday eventually got bored, and David went back for the idol. He cracked it open, and the most unlikely and paranoid person has now found his SECOND idol! Wow! That was incredibly lucky.

Drop Your Buffs!!!
Not only are the tribes switching, there are now going to be 3 tribes! Whoa! Didn't see that one coming! The third, new tribe will get 1 extra member because they have to start completely from scratch.

Vanua - Millennial camp
CeCe, Chris, David, Zeke, Michelle -- 3 Gen X / 2 Millennial

Takali - Gen-X camp
Taylor, Figgy, Adam, Jessica, Ken -- 3 Millennial / 2 Gen-X
(how in the world did Taylor and Figgy end up together?!)

Ikabula - new camp
Michaela, Hannah, Jay, Will, Sunday, Brett -- 4 Millennial / 2 Gen-X

Ikabula Camp
Michaela is pissed! She wanted to flip Jeff off. Jay is pretty psyched because his Millennials have the numbers 4-2.

Jay tries to get a fire going, but he can't keep it going. He's getting really frustrated, and Brett also gave up, so Michaela decides to give it a try because they have to have fire. Sure enough, homegirl got it going! Way to go, Michaela! She got really emotional and went off by herself to cry. This girl is really growing on me each week. She is proving that you can overcome so much and be the hero.

Takali Camp
Ken gives the Millennials a tour. Taylor thinks because they have the numbers, it's OK for them to be a couple in front of the Gen-Xers. Figgy does not think so. He doesn't think it's any different that people knowing that 2 people are in an alliance. Adam is pretty much in hell because he's alone with the power couple.

Adam and Ken talk and Adam confides in him that he felt like he was in the middle, but close to the bottom. He talked about how Figgy almost went home, and he was a vote against her. Ken is loving this. He sees the crack in the Millennials. He really likes Adam. I LOVE this partnership! Adam is now easily right in the middle of 2 tight alliances.

Vanua Camp
Zeke is pretty discouraged because he doesn't have the numbers and he's on the tribe with the one person he doesn't trust. Michelle is pretty worried also.

Zeke and Chris bonded over both coming from Oklahoma and football.

Chris told Zeke in private that he shouldn't feel like he is down and out because of the numbers. He has other plans. Zeke wants to play with the big ginger-haired football player, who was one of his heroes from the championship team of 2000. He is in Heaven.

Immunity Challenge
Challenge: swim and collect buoys, then toss buoys into basket and first 2 to 5 wins; they have the option to toss a hook to pull it closer

Will sits out for Ikabula

Adam is first, CeCe is next, and Sunday is last for Ikabula...she gives up! Someone now will have to swim twice and make up a ton of time. Wow. Jay goes and easily gets the buoy.

Jessica is back with the 2nd buoy. Meanwhile, CeCe is taking FOREVER (gee where have we heard that before?)

David just smacked himself in the face with his buoy! Ha! Now he's having trouble getting out of the water with the buoy...how embarrassing. Oh no! He got up and it rolled off the other side and back into the water. Zeke asked if he was throwing it. He then loses it again. Oh, this is so bad.

Takali is the first to finish, and Ken starts to throw to hook the basket.

Jay is making up a lot of time and is catching up while Ken tries to untangle his rope.

Ken lassos and nails it, so they can pull it closer.

Michaela is trying to pull in the basket for Ikabula, and she's got it.

Ken's buoy is in and out. Michaela shoots and scores 2 for 2! Wow! Ken scores 1 for Takali.

Vanua decides to just start shooting. Michaela gets #3 and #4! You go, girl! And she gets #5! This girl is on fire! Ikabula has immunity! I might just go out on a limb and say that Michaela might just be the best female competitor ever on Survivor. She is killing it lately! She's got strength, speed, and pinpoint dexterity. Lethal combination.

Vanua is having no luck, so they decide to pull it closer.

Ken finally gets basket #2 and then #3. Vanua lassos and gets it closer.

Ken gets #4 and #5! Yes! Nice job, Ken! Takali gets immunity. It will be Vanua going to Tribal.

Vanua Camp
Zeke correctly states that CeCe and David are atrocious at challenges. No surprise there. He thinks they don't care because they have the Gen-X numbers. What they don't know is that Chris has other ideas. I really think it is CeCe's time to go. I think if they vote David, he might not see it coming and won't play his idol at a 2nd Tribal in a row.

Chris took a lot of the blame and said he should have done better. Really?

Haha CeCe just called them "Millenniums".

Gen-X says they should tell them they are voting for Michelle, but vote for Zeke.

Chris's idea is to vote out CeCe with Zeke, David, and Michelle. He wants to build something strong that will last into the merge. David thinks he should go along with the plan so that Chris trusts him. Chris isn't sure he can trust David since he's burned him twice. Chris said if it doesn't go like this, he might just choke David in front of Jeff.

Michelle tells CeCe that she knows it's either her or Zeke on the chopping block. She said she has strengths so she shouldn't be voted out. She thinks it should be David instead.

CeCe told David that Michelle wanted to vote out David because he's weak.

David is confused and wonders if he should play his idol for CeCe instead. NO, NO, NO, NO! Not again, David! Don't be stupid 2 times in a row! <insert Michael Scott video of him screaming "No" over and over and over again>

Tribal
Zeke knows that he and Michelle are on the bottom because of their previous tribe numbers. David thinks the Gen-X 3 are strong. Zeke said David can't move further in the game without siding with Millennials.

Chris said Zeke and Michelle did try to talk and save themselves. Chris also talked about trusting David and threatening to choke him if he blindsided him again.

Michelle came right out and said that she thinks that David should be voted out.

The Votes
Whew! No idol played.

Michelle
CeCe
CeCe
CeCe

Woohoo! Whoa, she did not see that coming! Her jaw dropped to the floor! #Blindside

The Voice, Ep. 11.9

The Battles are wrapping up...

Team Adam

Bindi Liebowitz vs. Brendan Fletcher - "Take Me Home" by Marc Broussard
I don't know this song, but they are both doing a really good job with it. Just by looking at them, you wouldn't necessarily think they would be a good match, but their voices blend so well. I really, really love his tone. But I also really like her. Oh man, I hate to name my favorite in this one, because I'm afraid I will be proved wrong again. I haven't done the math, but this is the last battle, and I think there is probably one steal left, so most likely they will both be sticking around.
My Pick: Brendan
WINNER: Brendan (Wow!)
STEAL: Blake steals Bindi

Team Alicia

Gabriel Violett vs. Whitney & Shannon - "More Than Words" by Extreme
I love this song, I can't wait to see what they do with it. I could listen to Gabriel's voice all day long. And those harmonies by Whitney and Shannon? Just so heavenly. Another tough one. They are both so good. I don't love Whitney and Shannon as individuals so much, but when they sing together, it's magical. Poor guy, standing in between of them, he didn't really know which one to look at. I love the range that he shows. He hit some really high notes. The last few notes with all of them harmonizing were so beautiful.
My Pick: Gabriel
WINNER: Whitney & Shannon (of course, because duets do so well on this show)

Team Blake

Austin Allsup vs. Preston James - "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Austin's got a voice that could easily become a classic. Preston totally matches him, even though he's half Austin's age. You just do not expect that voice to come out of that kid! I really, really like him. He did not hold back one little bit. Austin just seemed to be so comfortable and laid back. What an even matchup this is! I really don't know what's going to happen with this one. Really, only 1 should continue because they are so similar, but I don't know which one that should be. Austin's got the experience, but Preston is so fresh and up-and-coming. I think I'd like to see what more Preston can do.
My Pick: Preston
WINNER: Austin (and...wrong again)

...and now we go on to the Knockouts

The Voice. Ep. 11.8

Battle Rounds continue

Team Adam

Johnny Rez vs. Nolan Neal - "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel
I absolutely LOVE Johnny's voice! Love, love, love! They sound great together. Nolan is good, but I don't really see anything outstanding or special about him. Johnny has something really special.
My Pick: JOHNNY! (I sure hope I'm not jinxing him because I've been wrong on just about every battle so far this season. I'm going to be REALLY UPSET if he doesn't get the win...and LIVID if he isn't stolen.)
WINNER: Nolan (Nooooooooo! Wrong again! You've got to be kidding me! And NO STEAL! Ugh!!!!!!!!!)

Team Alicia

Josh Halverson vs. Kylie Rothfield - "House of the Rising Sun" by Animals
This is one of the songs that I can hear a hundred times sung by anyone and it always sounds slightly different, but I always end up loving every version ("Hallelujah" would be another one). I love each of their voices. Josh's voice can at times appear a little weak and shaky, but when he really gets into it, it's really smooth and cool. I was surprised by Kylie's grit and how deep she really dug and she has a really nice range. I loved the way she floated so effortlessly between some of the notes and so quickly. I really like both of them. I think Kylie won with her sheer power, but Josh has something haunting and mystifying about him.
My Pick: I can't choose, I love them both!
WINNER: Kylie
STEAL: Miley steals Josh

Team Blake

Blaine Long vs. Josh Gallagher - "Stranger in My House" by Ronnie Milsap
I don't know the song and neither one of these guys are really sticking out to me. They sing perfectly fine but really nothing special at all. Just "meh".
My Pick: It's a dead even tie
WINNER: Josh

Christian Fermin vs. Gabe Broussard - "The Reason" by Hoobastank
Yes! Great song choice! One of my favorites and it never gets done on singing shows, but I don't know why. Gabe started out a little shaky and not quite in key, but Christian kind of did the same. When Gabe started the chorus, it was amazing. And then the 2nd phrase was Christian's and it was so beautiful. Christian also had the first big note and it was awesome, but Gabe followed it and duplicated it. It's so back and forth and they are both doing a great job! I think I like Christian's voice a little bit more than Gabe's. He really dug deep. OK, but now Gabe just did it too! Wow...so close.
My Pick: Christian (by just a little)
WINNER: Gabe (wrong yet again...this is just unreal)

Team Miley

Darby Walker vs. Karlee Metzger - "Brand New Key" by Melanie
Oh my gosh, this song! It's the song from that one commercial (don't remember what it was for) that gets stuck in your head! Both of them have a quirky voice that really fits the song well. Darby is probably more memorable, but her voice could get annoying after awhile. I think Karlee is probably more versatile.
My Pick: Karlee
WINNER: Darby (wrong, yet again...although I had a feeling she would be Miley's pick)
STEAL: Blake steals Karlee

Aaron Gibson vs. Sa'Rayah - "I'll Take Care of You" by Etta James
Aaron's voice is so surprising and unexpected. He doesn't look like he should have the bluesy rasp. This is a really tough one because they are both so good. I think she could tend to be a screamer, so I think I would go with him because he's so unique...which means of course that Miley will pick Sa'Rayah.
My Pick: Aaron
WINNER: Aaron (Wow, I finally got one!)
STEAL: Blake and Alicia push to steal, and Sa'Rayah chose Alicia

Dancing with the Stars, Ep. 23.6

Latin Night! Guest judge tonight is Pitbull. He's been making this a regular appearance on Latin Night the past few seasons.

Ryan & Cheryl - Salsa
That is some bright neon yellow he's got on! He is really starting to loosen up on the dancefloor. This is so much better than his chacha a couple weeks ago. He's much more smooth and loosy goosy. And hello abs! He's feeling the beat and he's got those hips moving! This was such an improvement for him! I was worried about him doing another Latin dance, but he nailed this one. OK, now this is COOL! She ripped off his pants, and he's got neon shorts on. They hit the lights and their outfits are glowing and they have glowing body paint on! How cool is that?! I loved this dance! Way to go, Ryan!!! Let's see some big numbers!
Score: 30 (way too low!!!)

Terra & Sasha - Paso Doble
Again, this is going to be very interesting to see how she pulls off what is supposed to be a very strong and aggressive role. I'm sure she will surprise me like she does every week. I love the purple! Haha look at her go! Pure sassiness with that dress. It still looks funny because she's so tiny and looks like a little kid, but you can't say that she's not giving it her all and totally nailing it. Wow!
Score: 30

Amber & Maks - ChaCha
OK, Amber is done in rehearsals, and I'm way "done" with her, too. Her attitude has kind of sucked for quite some time, and I'm just tired of it. I'm also done with her non-existant costumes. Enough already. The choreography was cute, to a very interesting song. Another fine performance. I would just like to see her branch out and do some different characters. It seems like all we are getting from her is the sexy dominatrix.
Score: 28

James & Sharna - Rumba
I love his "Ricardo" alter-ego. He is so hilarious! Such a jokester, but he knows how to turn the sexy on. He has the most natural hip movement that I think I've seen in a long time from a celebrity. He just feels the music and the moment. He is so connected to Sharna. Like REALLY connected. This was such a beautiful dance. It wasn't overly sexy, but it was very sensual, and he was just amazing.  I like what Bruno said about him really stretching his moves, and I've noticed how big and graceful all of his moves are. Love this guy! He has surprised me so much! I never expected to like him this much. I mean I had no idea who he was and he's not extremely good-looking. BUT, his personality, sense of humor, and his talent has made me a huge fan! Couple that with the fact that he should have died in his accident, or at the very least experience some pretty huge limitations with his mobility. He shows ZERO signs of any problems whatsoever. Julianne just said that she thinks he's the best male celebrity that has ever been on the show. Wow! There have been some truly AMAZING guys...to say that he's the best, that is huge!
Score: 38

Marilu & Derek - ChaCha
It's nice to see her doing something other than ballroom. I hate to say it, but she's continuing to do a really good job. Of course, most of that can be attributed to Derek being her partner. She's not my favorite, by any means, but I can't say that she's not doing a good job.
Score: 34

Jana & Gleb - Argentine Tango
I'm glad they're back to the sexy! I feel like their last couple of dances have been really safe. She's channeling her inner Amber for this dance, apparently. So smokin' hot! Those lifts were so fast! I loved the choreography! She had really good, quick flicks with her legs. So, they started out in a bed and ended up in a shower. Yummy! That was amazing! And they are completely soaked! That wasn't just a sprinkle of water! Way to really go for it! Thank you for a wet, and now shirtless, Gleb :) Bruno approves...he's now upside down in his chair!
Score: 40 (WOW!!! And they're in jeopardy?!)

Maureen & Artem - Samba
I am so surprised that she is still hanging in there. She keeps doing rather well at some really difficult dances. She doesn't really "wow", but she's safe, consistent, and fun to watch because she enjoys herself. This dance's choreography didn't look as technically difficult as we've seen tonight or from her in her previous dances.
Score: 31

Calvin & Lindsay - Argentine Tango
Him trying to make a sexy selfie face was hilarious! Look at him bringing the sexy! Love the open shirt! "Hotel California" is a really cool song to do this style of dance to. Whoa, that was a cool cartwheel like lift he just did. And oh my! He whipped her up over his shoulder so quickly, and he spun her around so fast! That was incredible! I will say that he seemed a little more stiff than usual, but it was still a lot of fun to watch. I liked what Bruno said about him being in control and leading, and when they showed a quick replay, he was totally right! That look on his face - he meant business! BTW, his abs are incredible...I think you could actually wash clothes on the washboard that he's packin'.
Score: 37

Laurie & Val - Salsa
Right out of the gate, Val is flipping her all around! This is such a fast dance, but it is so right up her alley. She never misses a step. She was worried about the sexy hips, but she rocked it just like she has every other dance. Another really wild and crazy lift! Great choreography and really suited her personality.
Score: 37

Week 6 Leaderboard

Jana & Gleb - 40
James & Sharna - 38
Calvin & Lindsay - 37
Laurie & Val - 37
Marilu & Derek - 34
Maureen & Artem - 31
Ryan & Cheryl - 30
Terra & Sasha - 30
Amber & Maks - 28

Results

In Jeopardy: Amber & Maks, Jana & Gleb, Calvin & Lindsay (what?!)
Going Home: Amber & Maks

Woohoo! That was a close one! I can't believe that it came down to her and Calvin. I was going to be REALLY upset if Calvin went home...especially before her! It was her time to go.

I think Maks is secretly happy, because he has made it known that he wants to be a stay-at-home dad, so this will just give him more time to prepare.

Survivor, Ep. 33.4

Gen-X Camp
Chris refuses to talk to anyone. He was NOT happy. He said he was ready to dump the rice and make a tribe of one. Jessica told the entire group what Paul said about the whole guy alliance thing and that being the reason they decided to vote out Paul.

Sandy asked Lucy the next day if they had done the wrong thing. WHOA! Lucy can talk! It's episode 4 and she finally got her first confessional! Lucy feels like she needs to do something, so she goes to Chris and Bret and apologizes. She tells them that Jessica is pulling all the strings and is trying to run things. She asked them if they wanted to do something, she would work with them. She also said that Ken and Dave would follow her, so they could easily go after Jessica and get her out.

Millennial Camp
Pig tracks have been found, so they decide to go look for it. They come across a goat instead. This is hilarious! They are all just stealthily hunting and climbing after the goat. Meanwhile, Adam, left alone, decides to look for the idol. And what do you know?! He found a clue that tells him where to look. He was so emotional reading it...too cute. Unfortunately, the "prize" is back at camp.

Reward Challenge
Reward: meat and veggies
Challenge: race to a ring and take it to a pole - the other tribe tries to stop you; first to 3 wins
Millennials sit out Michelle

Chris and David vs. Jay and Adam -- David scores as Chris completely manhandled both Jay and Adam himself

CeCe and Sunday vs. Michaela and Figgy -- Michaela and Figgy drag CeCe and Sunday

Tied 1-1

Bret and Ken vs. Taylor and Will -- Taylor takes out Ken! Will gets the ring but Ken strips it from him! Bret ties up Taylor and they break free to go after Ken but it's not enough, Ken scores!

Jessica and Lucy vs. Michaela and Hannah -- Hannah is way too timid - Lucy grabbed Michaela AND Hannah by herself...Michaela broke free by taking her top off! Lucy is a fighter, but Michaela is too strong and she pulls everyone to the pole and the Millennials are screaming for her!

Tied 2-2

David and Chris vs. Jay and Zeke -- Zeke tries to just annoy Chris and pester him and it worked! Jay is all alone with the ring but Chris does get it back. Zeke is being scrappy! Jay is pulling David but the ring slips and Chris gets it and Chris gets his hand on the pole first.

Gen-X wins reward. Wow, that was some tough battling!

Millennial Camp
I love Michaela's quote: "They about to see some tatas today!" lol

Adam works on trying to figure out his clue. It said to look for the tribe motif and something about it "sheltering", so he thinks it is hidden in a shell. He finally stumbles on something on the beach. He can't break it open, but he finally gets it. He was worried that he needed to get back to camp. Next thing you know, Hannah yells to him asking how his idol hunting was going and she said "good luck, buddy!" He's worried that she might have seen him with the idol. He asked the camera crew if she saw him with it. Obviously, they can't tell him. He broke down so emotional again because it was so hard for him to come because his mom was diagnosed with a very serious disease. He said it's been very hard on him, and it's hard knowing that his dreams are coming true because he's such a superfan, while his mom is sick at home. Poor guy. He seems like a genuinely nice guy...I hope he does well in this game!

Gen-X Camp
David and Lucy talk, and she won't give him a name about who has been discussed if they lose, but she did tell him and Ken later that they don't have anything to worry about. She tells them that everyone is on board to take down Jessica. She threatened them not to go tell her about it. Ken didn't like her "rules" and stipulations about this vote.

Immunity Challenge
Challenge: race through obstacles to a chair that will be lifted up to retrieve bags from 3 levels and in numerical order; pieces in the bags will be a puzzle

Millennials sit out Adam

Bret is flying through the obstacles, wow! Chris gets in the chair. Figgy gets in the chair for Millennials. Why didn't the Gen-Xers pick a girl who would be light to go up in the chair? So far, Gen-X is in the lead and Millennials are falling behind.

Chris gets all 10 and they bring him down. Ken takes to the course. Michelle comes on for Millennials. Ken worked very quickly and he's done already!

David is coming on for Gen-X. Michelle is done and now Michaela is flying through the course. A lot of time has been made up. David gets the last piece, Michaela is on 29 with one left.

It's basically neck-and-neck. It comes down to the puzzle. David, Ken, and Chris work for Gen-X. Figgy, Michaela, and Michelle working for Millennials. They are all counting out letters on their hands trying to figure out the phrase. 20 minutes have passed...

David thinks he's figured it out. Millennials don't seem worried at all. And it's now been 45 minutes!

Gen-X continues to put out letters and try things, but Millennials don't move much.

Millennials think they have something, and so do the Gen-Xers. Millennials think they have it, and they do! Woohoo! Wow! Like Jeff said, they came out of nowhere with that one!

Now, hopefully, either Jessica or Lucy will be going home for Gen-X! As long as Ken and David are safe, I will be one happy camper.

Gen-X Camp - Pre-Tribal
Chris and Bret hope the plan is still to blindside Jessica, and they need Lucy to make it happen. She tells Chris that she has Ken and David on board. She feels like she is the one in charge and she likes that.

David asks Ken what he thinks. Ken didn't like being scolded by Lucy. He said if they all link up together, that only puts him and David and CeCe at the bottom again. He thinks that they should try to go after Lucy. David thinks it sounds like a good idea. He tells CeCe briefly about the plan because he sees Lucy coming in their direction. Ken tells Jessica the plan to get her out and that Lucy was telling everyone that she was the mastermind. Jessica couldn't believe that because she thought everyone came up with it together. Jessica went right to Lucy and told her what Ken did! No!!!!!

Lucy asked Ken who he was voting for and he said he wasn't sure. He told her he didn't like the way she told him what he could and could not do. Oh, this is just a mess! David thinks the smartest thing to do is vote out Jessica with the rest. He wonders if he should maybe play his idol for Jessica to get Lucy out. He's worried because he lied to Lucy's face and he thinks she knows it. Yikes! You just can't trust anybody!

Tribal Council
David said the last Tribal didn't bring them together as a tribe as they had hoped. Chris said the state of the tribe is complete chaos.

The betrayal of Jessica and Lucy came up and out in the open in front of everyone. Lucy justified herself by saying people appreciate when she's blunt. She thought he should be grateful that what they were doing was keeping him in the game. Jessica asked Ken if she was supposed to believe him straight up for what he told her and he said she should. He thought they were close. It's clear maybe there were because now Jessica looks worried because it looks like she might believe him now.

For about the first time, I have no idea which way this is going to go!

The Votes
Holy crap....I just said to myself...OK David, you're smart enough to know that you shouldn't use this on someone other than yourself, right? And what does he do? He stands up and plays it for Jessica!!!!! He stands up and says that he's enjoyed playing with everyone, but he's about to do something that is not going to make too many people happy.

Jessica - does not count
Jessica - does not count
Jessica - does not count
Jessica - does not count
Jessica - does not count
CeCe
Lucy
Lucy

Haha! Jessica is one relieved cookie right now! She cannot believe it!  Her eyes are huge right now. I still can't believe David used that on her! Boy, that really turned around and bit Lucy on the ass very quickly, didn't it! I sure hope that this gives David and Ken something to work with. Jessica is clearly on the outs, so with CeCe, they would have 4, which would give them the majority. I'm wondering why Ken decided to vote for Jessica, though.

But...uh oh...next week is the swap! Drop your buffs!

The Voice, Ep. 11.7

The Battles continue...

Team Alicia

Dave Moisan vs Michael Sanchez - "Valerie" by Steve Winwood
I don't really like this song, and I don't think it did either of them any favors. They are both really high energy singers, and they slowed the song way down. I like them both, but Michael is a little on the strange side. I love Dave's high falsetto! What a cutie! Michael is such a surprise because you just don't expect that voice at all. The performance ended up being pretty good. I still would have liked to see a different song.
My Pick: Dave
Winner: Michael (wow, I'm horrible at picking this season!)
Steal: Adam! Woohoo! What a great fit; Dave is going to benefit so much from being on Adam's team!

Team Blake

Courtney Harrell vs Ethan Tucker - "Gravity" by John Mayer
He's got a very interesting tone. I wasn't blown away by her. I think there were some iffy notes on her part. I enjoyed his performance a lot. Hers seemed to be a little too over-the-top. I think she kind of overshadowed him a little bit.
My Pick: Ethan
Winner: Sophia (another one wrong)

Team Miley

Lane Mack vs Sophia Urista - "Money" by Pink Floyd
This song definitely suits Lane better than Sophia. He's got such a rich growl. He uses it just right and doesn't overdo it. She had a couple nice moments, but she would have done a lot better with a different song.
My Pick: Lane
Winner: Sophia (man, wrong AGAIN!)

The Voice, Ep. 11.6

Night 1 of the Battle Rounds! My favorite round of the competition!

Team Adam
Advisor: Sammy Hagar of Van Halen

Natasha Bure vs Riley Elmore - "Cry Me a River" by Michael Bublé
I'm sorry, but I just can't stand Riley's style. That is just the opposite of everything I like. Yes, he can sing, but it is not for me at all. On the other hand, I LOVE Natasha's voice. This song is just terrible. I can barely listen to it. If Natasha doesn't go through over him, I'm going to be devastated. I mean, the song was tailor-made for him, so Adam's going to pick him, right?! Ugh! I sure hope there's a steal (unless Natasha wins, that is).
My Pick: Natasha (duh!)
Winner: Riley

Andrew DeMuro vs Billy Gilman - "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson
I really like both of these guys. This is going to be a tough one. Billy sings so smoothly, and Andrew floats so easily through so many notes. Their harmony was spot-on and so crystal clear. Picking a winner between these two just isn't fair. This was one of the best duets of the night (Jason and Christian being right up there, too). They both performed the heck out of the song and brought their own personality to it. Yikes, I don't know which one I like better!
My Pick: Andrew (by just a little bit...and I'm going to be wrong again)
Winner: Billy (please let there be a steal!)

Team Alicia
Advisor: Charlie Puth

Christian Cuevas vs Jason Warrior - "Hello" by Adele
I am very interested to see how this song sounds when done by 2 men. I love Jason's tone and it really works well on this song. I liked his slight variations to the notes. They were just slight enough to still sound like the original, but also show a little bit of his own style. Christian sounded a lot better than he did in the rehearsals. Their voices blended well. They both have really big and powerful voices, but in different ways. Wow, this is going to be tough.
My Pick: Jason
Winner: Christian
Steal: Adam! Woohoo!

Lauren Diaz vs Wé McDonald - "Maybe" by Janis Joplin
Wé is just incredible. I still can't get over how meek and mild her speaking voice is, and then she sings and it is so deep and rich and powerful. And she has a range, too - she hit a really beautiful, high note. Lauren was pretty good, too, but she seemed to be trying a little too hard. It just comes so effortlessly to Wé.
My Pick:
Winner:
Steal: Miley and Adam (really?!); she picks Miley

Team Blake
Advisor: Bette Midler

Dan Shafer vs Sundance Head - "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Bad Company
Another terrible song tonight, but at least they did something different with it. I hate country, but wow, can those guys harmonize! They could go on the road, for sure. For an old guy, Dan's actually really good. I think I could actually listen to him sing more songs. Sundance is a little too country for me. And I can't handle that extremely long, gross beard.
My Pick: Dan
Winner: Sundance (another wrong pick, wow, I'm really off this season)

Team Miley
Advisor: Joan Jett

Ali Caldwell vs Courtnie Ramirez - "Hit or Miss" by Odetta
Not crazy about this song at all. I know I would like both of them better on a different song. Courtnie really went way over-the-top, and I didn't really care for it all. On a different song, I'm sure I would like her better than Ali, but not so much on this song. Courtnie just really seemed to do a lot of high-pitched screeches and it was kind of painful.
My Pick: Ali
Winner: Ali
Steal: Blake and Alicia (seriously?!); she picks Alicia

Dancing with the Stars, Ep. 23.5

Week 5: Most Memorable Moment

Maureen & Artem - Foxtrot
Year: 1985 - the year she married her husband
Great story, beautiful dress, beautiful song, lovely choreography. It was so dreamy and elegant. She's gotten lucky with a lot of ballroom dances of late.
Score: 24

Calvin & Lindsay - Jazz
Year: 2012 - the year he broke Jerry Rice's record
So flashy! Both the outfits and his smile, as usual! He just lights up the dancefloor. That over the head spinning lift was incredible! BUT...I don't know that jazz is one of the dances that Carrie Ann excuses lifts for. And he didn't just do one, they did 2 lifts! And oh look! There's Jerry Rice in his dance throwing him the ball! And then to find out that he didn't know that that was going to be Jerry (and they've NEVER met before?!)! What?! What a cool idea! Great dance as usual. I love to watch his enthusiasm.
Score: 24 (wow, that was low)

Jana & Gleb - Contemporary
Year: 2016 - the year her daughter was born
So, so beautiful.  Gleb created such beautiful choreography. It was danced so beautifully and gracefully. So light and effortless. I loved the lifts. Lots of emotions in that dance for her, especially at the end when they put her daughter's picture up on the big screen.
Score: 26

Ryan & Cheryl - Contemporary
Year: 2008 - won his first individual gold medal in the Olympics
I love seeing his emotions when he talks about swimming. So cute. He is dedicating the dance to his mom. I have been waiting to see him do a dance like this. And thank you, Cheryl, for having him dance with his shirt open! He had so much emotion and vulnerability, nd you could feel it through every movement. Holy crap, Cheryl! That slow motion backbend to the floor was scary good! The music is horrible, but he is doing so well! Very, very nice over the head spinning lift. Aw, great job, Ryan!
Score: 24

Laurie & Val - Paso Doble
Year: 2016 - went to the Olympics
This is the first week that we've seen her very vulnerable in rehearsals. Val was very hard on her and really pushed her. Very interesting beginning with her in this strange box. I love that she's dancing to Katy Perry's "Rise". She is rocking it so hard! So much intensity on that face! When you know how bubbly she is normally, to see her with such a stern look on her face, it's such a transformation! That was so incredilble! Somehow, she manages to top herself every week. I don't know how she does it! Surprisingly, they actually found things wrong with this?!
Score: 25

Marilu & Derek - Viennese Waltz
Year: 1978 - the year her mom died and a couple weeks later, she got the role on Taxi
I love her dress, and I love the smoke on the floor. What a weird song, though, it doen't really seem like the right kind of song for this type of dance. She did a really good job this week, and I think the judges are really going to like it. She looked a lot less stiff than usual. Whatever Derek did differently this week really worked. Not sure if her foot stayed on the floor in that wicked spin...we shall see what Carrie Ann says. Haha! Carrie Ann runs to hug her, Julianne joins in, and Bruno...hugs Derek and Derek dips him!
Score: 27

Amber & Maks - Samba
Year: 2013 - the year her son was born
She had a really rough week of rehearsals this week. I'm sorry, but her attitude...I'm over it. I'm ready for her to go home. This dance is clearly just building on the last 2 dances that she did and plays on what they have been telling her to do more of. It's a lot of butt and boob shaking, as always. That's part of this style of dance, but it's just so obvious and overstated.
Score: 24

James & Sharna - Tango
Year: 2015 - the year he had the biggest crash of his career and he almost died. Hearing his story was incredible...I didn't know just how bad it was. The surgeon said that no one should have been able to survive it. And it was 18 months ago! He said it was "the best thing that's ever happened to me." Wow!
He looks incredible, as usual. I loved the song and the laser lights. It was a little bit jerky in some places, but I always enjoy watching him. Always. And knowing what his body went through not long ago, makes what he is doing all the more incredible. His surgeon was waiting for him backstage and they are friends now...so cool! His outlook on life is so inspriring.
Score: 29

Terra & Sasha - Contemporary
Year: 2013 - the year her dad died and she started Little Women, L.A.
Not really much to say. It was beautiful, and had lots of emotion. That running leap was intense! She really flung herself at him!
Score: 27

Week 5 Leaderboard

James & Sharna - 29
Marilu & Derek - 27
Terra & Sasha - 27
Jana & Gleb - 26
Laurie & Val - 25
Calvin & Lindsay - 24
Maureen & Artem - 24
Ryan & Cheryl - 24

The Voice, Ep. 11.5

The final blind auditions...

Team Adam

Johnny Rez, 25
I love his singer/songwriter voice. Great tone and great pitch. I really, really like his voice a lot. His lower register needs a little bit of work, but his upper register and his falsetto are great. Whew! I was so worried no one was going to turn around for this guy! Adam and Blake waited until the last few seconds!
Chair Turns: 2 (Adam and Blake)

Natasha Bure, 17
She is Candace Cameron Bure's (aka DJ Tanner from Full House) daughter! Ooh, love her voice! Goosebumps! She did so many cool runs and it was just really cool and beautiful. She made it seem really easy.

Wow, Adam didn't waste any time turning around for him. I think he's got a great voice, but I don't know if I'm that excited about him. After Adam and Miley turned, he seemed to have some pitch issues. I think he's got some potential, though. It will be interesting to see what he does after this. I did like what he did with Phillip Phillip's songs. Cool that he sang that, I don't know that I've ever heard anyone do any of his songs.

Team Alicia

Whitney, 25 & Shannon, 23
They are sisters who sound exactly the same when they talk and when they sing. They have absolutely beautiful voices! So angelic! They picked a perfect song for their voices. Absolutely loved their harmony. I totally got goosebumps. Wow!
Chair Turns: 4

Kylie Rothfield, 23
Nice song choice! I kind of like what she did with this OneRepublic song, even though I love the original so much. She gave it a real jazzy vibe, but it really worked with her voice. And she played electric guitar, too. Wow. I didn't think anyone was going to turn around! They would have been crazy!
Chair Turns: 2 (Blake and Alicia)

Team Blake

Courtney Harrell, 36
I actually really loved her performance. Interesting song choice (James Bay's "Let it Go"), but she really rocked it out! She started out kind of soft and gentle, and then she really got into it and it was totally incredible!
Chair Turns: 2 (Blake and Alicia)

Blaine Long, 40
It took me a few seconds to figure out what song he was singing. It sounded so different. It turned out to be "Have a Little Faith in Me". I like his voice. He's got a very country tone and even a little bit of twang. It was a very nice performance.
Chair Turns: 3 (Adam, Blake, Miley; Alicia's team was full)

Team Miley

Maye Thomas, 27
Wow, she sounds just like Daya, who sings this song. Really strong performance. I like her.
Chair Turns: 2 (Adam and Miley)

Josette Diaz, 17
Interesting Justin Bieber choice, but it worked. Beautiful tone. I love her teal guitar! She is really talented. I can see her going far.
Chair Turns: 1 (all other teams were full)

Survivor, Ep. 33.3

Millennial Camp
Zeke and Adam were completely blown away by the blindside. Hannah tried to be an adult and talk to them about why she switched. She said she had no intention of switching prior to Tribal. She said when Michelle told her to trust her and that they had the numbers, she didn't see why she should vote with the minority. Zeke just wanted to be left alone.

Gen X Camp
David knows he's at the bottom and has a battle in front of him. But, he does have the idol, so he's got some life if he can use it wisely.

Look at Paul going diving for those fish! He really has made a miraculous recovery! He came back empty handed though because of the current. He thought he was good because he can do this in the Florida Keys where he's from. Ken points out that Ken again said he could do something and didn't follow through...similar to a lot of people on the tribe. He doesn't understand why people are behind these guys and he's on the bottom.

UPDATE (Spoiler - skip reading this if you don't know who gets voted out!):

...in Paul's exit interview, he was asked why Ken wasn't a part of the core 6 alliance. His answer was very interesting and telling: "He didn’t connect with anybody in the group. He didn’t talk to Bret, he didn’t talk to Chris, he didn’t talk to me. He really stuck with talking to the girls. We tried, it’s not like anybody disliked the guy. He’s a great guy. He comes from a completely different world that I do, but he’s an awesome guy. He just did not want to talk about the game with us. We tried desperately to keep him in our alliance. He would’ve been perfect with us."

Twist
Each tribe will draw colored rocks. Certain colored rocks drawn will be sent to the other tribe to do some recognizance.  For the Millennials it is: Will, Taylor, Figgy, Jay - wow, interesting. For Gen X it is: David, Chris, CeCe, Paul.

The 8 members meet together, so they aren't actually going back to each others' camps. They also get a nice feast.

David asked who the Millennials got rid of and if it was a blindside. They said it was. Gen X asked if anyone has hooked up yet, and Jay quickly said no. That was the last thing he wanted getting out was that they were dumb enough to let a power couple stay in the game.

Paul talked about being in a rock and roll band.

David wants to make friends with the Millennials since he is on the bottom of the tribe and when they merge he will need help getting rid of Paul. Figgy wants to know who is on the bottom of the tribe. They said Paul is kind of running things. CeCe said it was stupid for Paul to leave them alone so they could divulge that info.

David tells Taylor that he would side with him over his own tribe in the event of a merge.

The girls wanted to know about Ken, whom they call him "Ken Doll".

Gen X Camp
CeCe told Ken about the Millennial tribe's nickname for him. He said he grew up with that nickname all of his life. Clearly, they only see him as having good looks, but he is providing for the tribe and he's leading them in challenges. He is invaluable and they would be stupid to get rid of him..at this point. Later, he's going to be a huge threat to win. He talked to Jessica and wonders why he's on the outs and he's not involved in any strategy talks. He said Paul is the only one rubbing people the wrong way, so why are they keeping him?

Millennial Camp
Taylor is all "puppy dogs and rainbows". He thinks he's sitting pretty and he's got his girl by his side.

Adam said that Figgy sucks at Survivor and he can't believe the vote to keep her last time. He talks to Michaela and Hannah. He said that Michelle and Jay were integral in getting the vote switched. If they vote out Figgy or Taylor, they split up the power 4 and swing the majority.

Immunity/Reward Challenge
They have to carry big bags of sand and coconuts (40 lbs) over and under obstacles and then across really wonky balance beams, then toss the bags at blocks to knock them over. The pieces are puzzle pieces that they will put together.

Reward: hammock, pillows, blankets, lounge chairs, candles

Gen X is behind early. Millennials are first to the balance beam. They are tied at 1 bag across each. Will falls and has to start over, so Gen X has the lead.

CeCe is taking a really long time on the beam. Jeff said someone should have carried her bag because someone can run twice, even though she would still have to cross the beam. She took forever!

Taylor carried at least 3 of the bags. They now have to get all members across. Will is struggling for some reason, but he makes it and now they only have Adam. Lucy keeps falling and they keep trying to root her on and she keeps shushing them.

Millennials are across and are tossing bags. Jay is tossing and wasn't making any of the blocks moving at first. Now, they are starting to fall. Ken starts throwing for Gen X and he's making quick work. Jay has only the bottom row left, but Ken is catching them up fast.

Jay gets all the pieces off, so now it's puzzle time. Zeke and Michelle work on the puzzle.

Ken gets all the pieces off and Sunday and David start on the puzzle.

Millennials are looking good, and they are down to 2 pieces. Gen X has all but about 4 or 5. But it is Millennials for the win!

I think that loss may go back to CeCe taking forever on the balance beam. Chris points out that 3 people for the Millennials made it across in the time that it took her to make it.

Jay asks Jeff if they can switch their comfort reward for fishing gear. Jeff said if Gen X agrees and if they can make it a fair trade. Gen X decides that they need to keep the comfort. They don't want them getting stronger by getting more food.

Gen X Camp - Pre-Tribal
Paul said CeCe cost them the challenge and she has to go. She was already on the bottom, so this just kind of seals the deal. Sunday and Bret agree that she needs to go to keep the team strong.

CeCe asked Sunday and Jessica what was going on because she had no clue. She feels unsafe because no one talks to her.

David wonders if they can make a move for Paul. He retrieved his idol from its hiding place, just in case.

Sunday and Jessica talk to Paul. They agree they have a strong 6 and should go right down the line. Jessica made an off-handed comment about them having an all-guys' alliance. He said he would give his word that they didn't, but if they did he would tell her and he would tell the girls they are on their own. This really struck Jessica and she realized he's not completely with them and would turn on them, so they might need to go after him.

Tribal Council
Lots of talk about the Gen X way of doing things vs. the Millennials way of doing things...in life and in the game. Nothing really exciting or noteworthy of any game moves or information.

Paul! #Blindside! Way to go David and company! Nicely done! It will definitely be interesting to see how the dynamics of the tribe change now.

Dancing with the Stars, Ep. 23.4

Week 4: Cirque du Soleil Night!
I can't wait, I think this is going to be amazing!!! But on a VERY sad note, tomorrow is a double elimination?! What?! No fair!

Calvin & Lindsay - Charleston
I think I'm going to say this for every recap, but "holy crap!"! So fast, lots of lifts and they were totally in sync. He was having so much fun! He really captured the fun and goofy style and played it off perfectly. Loved it!
Score: 23

Maureen & Artem - Argentine Tango
I keep forgetting that she is 60 years old. She looks amazing. She seems to be with him every step of the way. I think her lines look really good and her intensity was good as well. The performance itself was a little underwhelming by Cirque du Soleil standards, but she did a good job.
Score: 24

Jana & Gleb - Foxtrot
They are just too cute. I loved Gleb's choreography. I'm just wondering when the Cirque du Soleil part is coming. So far, nothing is happening except them dancing...and they're done, and there were no other performers and there wasn't really anything spectacular happing. :( It was a great dance, though.
Score: 23

Marilu & Derek - Paso Doble
Now THIS looks like a Cirque du Soleil performance! Derek looks amazing - except for the weird mutton chop paint on the sides of his face. I knew Derek would not disappoint. There are lights and fire and lots of twirling red flags. By the end I realize that I didn't really pay much attention to the actual dancing. There were a lot of distractions. It was a fun piece, though, and I love the shooting flag at the end that "killed" Derek.
Score: 21

Amber & Maks - Tango
I know this is burlesque-inspired, but dang...she isn't wearing much, and what she is is painted on. Barely there lace and garter, and a swimsuit-like top that leaves nothing to the imagination. Costume aside, the dance was phenomenal. Maks said he was going to push the envelope, and he really did. She embraced it and did a great job. Maks really knew what he was doing to get people to vote for her in this week of a double elimination.

They spent way too much time about Julianne's comment from last week and she said she was a little uncomfortable watching her performance. Amber took that to mean that she was body shaming her and she only said that because of her body and no one says anything about the other girls who don't wear much. I don't think Julianne's comments had anything to do about her body type, but more on the raunchy booty shaking and grinding going on.
Score: 24

Ryan & Cheryl - Viennese Waltz
That was brave of him to have that piece at the beginning without Cheryl. It wasn't much, but it had to be timed to the music. He looks so fluid, like he's in water - which obviously is what this dance is about, and is where he is most comfortable. I sure hope the judges like it and give him some big scores! Overall, it was really lovely. The ending was a bit awkward. Uh oh - more shouting from the audience while getting his scores. Not sure what they were shouting. But...the judges seemed to love it!
Score: 22 (He deserved higher than that, especially after their comments)

Babyface & Allison - Tango
I feel like he already had a tango, didn't he? I think it was the Argentine tango, but close enough. I'm sorry, but he just really bores me. He looked a little lost in a couple places, and he pretty much confirmed that it "went away". It was definitely not anything too special or memorable. It seems to be the same low-key performance every week. I'm hoping he is one of the 2 eliminated tomorrow.
Score: 18

Terra & Sasha - Samba
That is some wild hair she's got going on this week! I'm loving Sasha's choreography. She is having a blast with this one and she is rocking it so hard! I don't know how she's doing it, but she's doing it! Wow!
Score: 25

Laurie & Val - Jazz
She learned most of the dance by watching Val's video because they were separated across the country. And she comes out, and absolutely kills it...as per usual! She looked amazing and she totally brought the character to life. You almost didn't even notice Val as Michael Jackson! Dream come true for her and it was a great moment. She had this competition won in week 1 and she hasn't slowed down since.
Score: 30!!!!!! First 10s of the season and the first perfect 30 of the season! Wow!!!

Vanilla Ice & Witney - Viennese Waltz
Come on Vanilla! We need a good week! He had 5 concerts and wasn't getting in until Monday - the day of the show?! Yikes! I love that they are using a bunch of the original dancers from the Cirque show. I love Witney's dress. It's probably good that Len isn't here this week to critique him on this ballroom dance. I think he's doing a good job, but what do I know. They will probably rip him apart for his footwork or his hold posture. I don't think you could tell that he had very little rehearsal time. He definitely pulled it off.
Score: 23

James & Sharna - Quickstep
I think this number is going to steal the show. I just love him more and more every week. I just can't believe how good he is at embodying different characters every week. He kept up so well with all of the pros that were on the floor. The acrobats were incredible, but James was phenomenal. I couldn't take my eyes off of him. He was out front and center leading the other dancers and he nailed it! Loved it!
Score: 28

Week 4 Leaderboard

Laurie & Val - 30
James & Sharna - 28
Terra & Sasha - 25
Maureen & Artem - 24
Amber & Maks - 24
Calvin & Lindsay - 23
Jana & Gleb - 23
Vanilla Ice & Witney - 23
Ryan & Cheryl - 22
Marilu & Derek - 21
Babyface & Allison - 18

Results

Going Home, 1st Elimination: Babyface & Allison,

In Jeopardy: James & Sharna (what?!), Vanilla Ice & Witney (what?!), Jana & Gleb (what?!)
I am in shock right now. NONE of these couples should be in jeopardy. NONE of them! Who is it going to be?! I don't want it to be any of them! I can't believe that Ryan was safe! I am SO HAPPY for him. I voted a ton for him. But...I didn't realize it would put 3 of my favorites in jeopardy. I figured it would be Amber or Maureen or Marilu maybe. Not these 3. Come on! This is not cool!

Going Home, 2nd Elimination: Vanilla Ice & Witney
Noooooo! He was doing so good! I'm really surprised that with the same judges' scores as Jana that he got fewer fan votes than she did. Shocked. I love Jana and Gleb, but I looked forward to seeing him every week. I'm really going to miss him.
