Let's get this started!
Ben gets some advice from Sean Lowe, Jason Mesnick, and Chris Soules. I get why Sean and Jason are there, but Chris wasn't exactly successful in his journey. His advice was to "kiss them all!" Yeah, that worked out well for you in the end. I wouldn't exactly say a 3-month engagement is somthing to strive for here. I think Sean had the best advice, and he was honest in saying that he didn't start having feelings for Catherine from the beginning - she kind of snuck up on him.
First Impressions - Girls' Video Packages
Lauren B - seems really genuine and down-to-earth
Caila - cute, but maybe a little too cute -- seeing Ben on TV made her realize she should break up with her boyfriend of a year
Jubilee - girls better watch out for her - she knows how to shoot a gun, flip a guy, and she already said there would be "casualties" and "all is fair in love and war" (side note: that is way too many cheesy references to her being in the military)
Mandi - weird and very creepy and I would be very leery of her getting anywhere near my mouth
The twins: Emily and Haley - why twins? so dumb
Amanda - she has 2 kids and seems very young; I think her voice might get annoying after awhile
Tiara - her obsession with chickens is a little disturbing, I mean, chickens are great, but when you have them sitting on your shoulder when you're brushing your teeth...you may be a little too close to your chickens; "Which came first the chicken or the Ben?" seriously? What does that even mean? I really hope she has a real job, and I really hope she is able to choose Ben over the chickens
Sam - she seems nice, but we don't see anything about her other than her sad story of her dad having ALS
Limo Entrances
Lauren B - brought him a pair of wings because she's a flight attendant; she hopes he's ready to "take off" on this journey; Ben thinks this is a good start to the night
Caila - she runs and jumps right into his arms (good thing he was ready or that could have been a disaster) - maybe a little too overzealous, but Ben seemed to like it.
Jennifer - she hopes he will remember her name, and Ben and Jen is too cute to forget
Jami - she knows Kaitlyn and she said he has a really big heart
Samantha "Sam" - she just found out she passed the bar exam; she asked him "boxers or legal briefs" and he said legal briefs
Jubilee - she said she totally forgot all the good pickup lines she was going to use
Amanda - really excited it's him and can't wait to talk to him inside; nothing gimicky, just a nice (slightly boring and unmemorable) meeting
Lace - she told him to close his eyes and then she kissed him! She said she wanted the first kiss. That was smooth...and a little creepy! She seems way drunk already.
Lauren R - she's been stalking him on social media for 2 months and I think he was a little bit creeped out...he kept asking her name and she just kept babbling and babbling and never gave it to him
Shushanna - he said she looked like a rose; she started to talk in some foreign language and he just pretended and went along with it; he so cutely said he must be getting really tired or he's losing his mind, lol!
Leah - gets out of the limo and hikes him a football
Joelle "JoJo" - wears a unicorn head...not even joking -- she said unicorns do exist and she is his
Lauren H - brought a wedding bouquet because Ben had said that he caught the garter at a recent wedding he attended
Laura - her friends call her red velvet - she hopes that will help him remember her name, or he can just call her that
Mandi - wears a headband with a giant rose on it; she says if he is lucky, "maybe you can pollinate it later" and she told him she picked it outside (side note: this is not a surprise after seeing her video package; side note #2: she is eerily similar to Ashley S....oh no, I didn't think there could be 2 in this world)
Emily & Haley - he's shocked and they group hug! Ben is the exception because they never date the same guy (I sure hope not!)
Maegan - brings her pony (which stays all night) - and we have another girl obsessed with a pet; she does not seem like his type at all
Breanne - gives him a breadbasket and they break all the bread inside because she doesn't eat gluten
Isabel "Izzy" - she's wearing a pajama onesie! She said she had to find out if he is "the onesie" for her (yikes!)
Rachel - she comes in on Cloud 9 (a hoverboard)
Jessica - feels like the luckiest girl in the world to be there (yeah, her and like 30 other girls)
Tiara - she's really nervous and she said this is like Disneyland; he said she was beautiful as she walked away
Lauren "LB" - she's excited he's here
Jackie - gives him a "save the date" for their future wedding and even hashtagged it...yikes! He said it was smooth, so he must have liked it
Olivia - she was nervous, he asked what they could do to calm her, and ended up having a cute conversation about dimples...it was silly and random, but so cute!
So cute...Ben calls his mom and dad from outside the house after meeting all the girls.
One-on-Ones
Ben barely gets out a greeting and Mandi and her giant rose come to take him away. She seems so crazy and/or drunk. She asked if he flosses, and then she puts him on her lap and opens his mouth and gives him an oral exam. RealitySteve said there are photos of her kissing him at this point, but it's not shown in the episode
Olivia - was a news anchor but left her job to be there. She seems really down-to-earth and nice. Not overly nice, just very sweet and NORMAL! She was so comfortable talking to him. She treated him like a real person (if that makes any sense).
Caila - says they have something in common: they are both in software sales - hers is retail and his in in back office processing
Emily & Haley - never dated the same guy before
JoJo - game of flashcards with pictures about herself and he has to guess (like the city where she's from, what she does, etc.) - interesting idea!
Amber and Becca arrive
Amber says she never really got a chance with Chris and Becca thinks Ben could be the one. It's up to Ben if they stay or go. The girls are pissed! They think they have no right to be there. I really think they were all just jealous because Becca is a legitimate threat. She is like a perfect match for him, in my opinion.
Becca was the first to find Ben, and steals him away from Lauren H. The other girls were nervous because he was touchy-feely with her. Then Amber joined the party and really surprised Ben. He wasn't sure what to think. Lace was spying on them and getting more upset, but said he could meet them before talking to her.
More One-on-Ones
Lace - she is so embarrassingly drunk...she asks if it would be awkward if she would ask for a better kiss. He said it wasn't awkward, but was in the process of rejecting her, when Mandi comes in and steals him. Lace got really upset and said they were so close to kissing until she came, even though she admitted that he rejected her. After talking to Mandi, he went to find Lace because he seemed concerned. He really wanted to explain himself more since he got interrupted. She was really appreciative. He doesn't just want to focus on the physical and wants to take time to get to know each of the girls and that's why he rejected her wanting another kiss. She now feels special and feels like she is getting a rose because he took the time to look for her to make her feel more comfortable and not rejected.
Lauren B - she doesn't get nervous, but she is now. Ben says "she takes my breath away". She definitely seems like another really normal girl. I like her a lot.
Jennifer - 2 most important things about being in a relationship to her: morals and values, and physical attraction - and she is crazy attracted to him. He told her that she was gorgeous. He said her confidence was attractive.
First Impression Rose goes to Olivia - he says their conversation meant a lot to him. She was definitely a good choice.
Lace is now upset again because Ben paid attention to her and now, nothing. She is totally oblivious that Ben has maybe only talked to half of the girls at that point, and she's already having a meltdown. Just a hunch, but this kind of a show might not be the right thing for Lace.
Rose Ceremony:
Get Roses: Amanda, Amber, Becca, Caila, Emily, Haley, Jackie, Jami, Jen, JoJo, Jubilee, Lace, Lauren B, Lauren H, LB, Leah, Mandi, Olivia (first impression), Rachel, Sam, Shushanna
Eliminated: Breanne, Izzy, Jessica, Laura, Lauren R, Maegan, Tiara
Normally as soon as the Rose Ceremony is done, the eliminated girls hug Ben and leave and it's done. Nope, not this time. Lace has to get in one last talk with Ben. She said she feels like he didn't look at her one time during the Ceremony and she thought for sure she was going home. She said she hopes that this is the right thing for her to be there. This makes her question things and if he wants her to go home then he should just send her home. She said she watched him and he refused to make eye contact with her. He said he didn't do it intentionally and there are a lot of really great people in there. He said he sent other people home, but he gave her a rose because he wanted her to stay. In his ITM, he was visibly frustrated with her because he GAVE HER A ROSE! Rightly so, he (NOW) thinks that the drama is only beginning. Yeah, I don't see this being a one-time thing with her. Funniest tweet response to this, from Whitney Duncan (Survivor and Amazing Race): "I would've taken my rose back from Lace like she was Miss Colombia. I mean, how ungrateful. #byelace". Yes! Totally! That would have been epic!
So, of course both Lace and Mandi make it through. They wouldn't want to get rid of the craziest ones right off the bat, where would be the fun in that?!
Biggest surprise elimination: Jessica - she's pretty, seemed really nice and would have been a much better choice than Lace or Mandi...or the girl we never saw speak English. At least the "chicken enthusiast" didn't make it.
Side note (SPOILER ALERT!): Did everyone catch how Lauren B was the first video package, first one out of the limo, AND the first one called at the Rose Ceremony? #foreshadowing
BONUS from the Bachelor Live After Show: a scene we didn't get to see with Ben and JoJo. She explained her choice of coming out with a unicorn head. She said she told producers she was looking for her unicorn. She also said she wanted to meet Ben. She decided that if she was going to get to meet him, he might as well get to see what she's actually like. I will admit this doesn't really sound as good in writing as she made it sound. She actually came across as really normal. Ben sensed that and he said he can tell she's not crazy and that she's not going to freak out on him in this process. It was a really cute conversation, and gave a glimpse of what he sees in her and how she (SPOILER ALERT!) ends up in the final 2. I'm glad she seemed more normal than her first impression.
Another Bonus from Bachelor Live After Show: Wow, like I said at the beginning, Maegan was totally not the girl for Ben. She (in her own words) curses like a sailor, loves whiskey, beer, Jack Daniels. I obviously don't know Ben, but those do not seem like things that Ben would be attracted to at all. Her mini pony, Huey, made a much better impression than Maegan did.
